Welcome maties to the latest RPC! These contests of skill are meant to be educational and fun, with a unique twist on our beloved leaders!

Here I be, Hannibal the mighty Pirate! However, the raiding life does not give me any true power which is what I crave! So, I doest make a treay with the King of the Underworld himself, Davy Jones, aka, the devil himself! If I can avoid the temptation of settling on the coast or learning the art of sailing, World domination will be granted us! Argggggggg, tis' a hard won bargain, but I shalt agree to it! So, onto the details of this "Deal with teh Devil"

Map:

Continents map with low water level.
Monarch difficulty, marathon speed.

Da' rules of tis' fine challenge

1) We cannot settle on the coast, nor keep a captured enemy coastal city, nor work an ocean tile. However, we might be able to weasle arround the Big "Smoo" and work some fresh water tiles!

2) We can never obtain the tech o' sailing!

3) We can never build ourselves a navy of any sort!

4) Once the rivals overseas leaders find us, the devil agrees to raise the ocean in certain spots to allow a land bridge to defeat the enemy!

5) Victory! Conquest or Domination. The world shalt be split between us on the land and the sea to the devil!

SO all can see me grand protrait!

And the land we ahev!

Argggggg, the devil do be tempting us early on now! This done calls for some movement of the early settler!

can you work coastal tiles? they're not ocean tiles for sure.

Already trying to find holes in that devil contract!

But the answer is no. I consider coast to be ocean.

offhand just from looking at what we can see i'd say 2s of current settler pocission

also, it looks like you have a pair of suspiciously empty tiles (grassland 1S of the pigs and plains 1NW of your warrior) within what would be your BFC if you settled im place (which obviously you can't do due to your varient's restriction). I'd guess horseys and a metal. As for where to settle, I have no idea.

You want to worldbuild away the Fishing tech so you'll have no temptation? :p

You're going to worldbuild in a land bridge anyway. (probably should have gone with a pangaea map)

Avast, Madscientist, methinks this'll be a fun RPC, matey. Too bad 't isn't September 19th...

Great idea, Mad! I might try to play a shadow of this one.

Move the warrior 1W or 1SW. You have multiple settling options. I like the look of those green tiles S and E for a FIN leader. I wonder if Shaka will make an appearance in this one. :mischief: That would be just the thing that the devil would do to avoid having to pay off on his wager.

I thinking move the warrior 1SW and settle 1SW, instant happiness, river, and no ocean. Maybe take a shot at Stonehenge? That way you'll have +3 :) than normal (1 from charismatic, another 1 for monument w/ stonehenge and charismatic and 1 from silk). If you have this much happiness, you'll be way ahead of the game since you'll be able to work a lot of cottages early on (but monarch again???).

No sailing, no calendar, no happiness from silk, ever!

But settling on the silk will give you a 2 :food: 1 :hammers: 3 :commerce: city tile.

its going to take forever to get all your troops across 'ye land bridge.

That's what marathon is for. ;)

Anyway, a really powerful leader with two top-tier traits. Should be a fun romp, just make sure you finish early enough.

1SW looks decent without any moves(I would check first), but +1 C I think(really +2 cause you are financial so a 3C capital square), if it was grasslands I think it would be +1F as well... PLAY WITH YIELDS ON :D

Ah yes, all the more reason why to settle 1SW, your never going to be able to get the yields of the silk with a plantation, and settling on it would give you 1 more coin for the rest of the game. Settling elsewhere, you could still grab the silk, however, with a fort.

no calendar no silk fort or plantation don't matter

A land lubber pirate be you!

Should be interesting. No sailing, no ships, and thousands of miles worth of land just rising for a bridge. Yep, This does indeed have a good setup for a very entertaining game.

Aye laddies, this is going to be a hard game. Pass me the rum, hohoho. Hoist the anker, oh wait, we will never invent the anker. Nvm. Harharhar.

About the starting spot, it actually sucks to be honest. Clams are unworkable, silk is unworkable although the riverside silk is actually not too bad at 2F/1h/3c if I am not mistaken. Only pigs are good. Lets hope at least for another strategic resource close. We need them horsies for our cavalry.

Use forts on all Calendar resources to get the hapyness/health bonus ?

no sailing has quite dramatic impacts later on in the tech tree.

no sailing,
no calendar,
no compass
no optics
no astronomy
no physics
no medicine

which means your tech tree ends with fascism, assembly line, communism, biology and combustion. no electricity or physics rule out all techs after these.
