Role Play Challenge: Julian Assange YouTube Shadow

^^^Cottaging up is pretty logical in a full on EP game. It's really the only way to amass lots of EPs early with SYs since running spies are very limited. You only have one until the late game buildings.

well that I kind of understand... but still :-) it's not like in non-cottage games you don't get commerce... the only thing that is lacking, you can't build espionage like with wealth and research.

I plan to try non-slider game too in some 'near future' and will probably go with minimum cottages (or non-cottage based on land for first 2 cities)

I wondered in the part III why you didn't spy more on Suleiman? There is some demerits in diplo if you fail?

And I really didn't like the cottage all the land approach :-).

and am interested how you will crack the darius NC game ;-). I finished yesterday and made a little bit mistake with recording, so have only up to T178 on youtube :-(.

I beat it.

My instant-obvious reads based on map script were GLH/Colossus; unfortunately the latter went very early (like 800 BC)...not really something you can beat the AI to getting unless you oracle it when it goes that soon. Unfortunate, because colossus coast en-masse' would really allow FIN to shine w/o cottage spam. I basically played w/o cottages anyway and went totally peaceful space; the nature of the map script makes naval invasions from the AI impossible and you rarely have to defend more than 1 choke, if any.

The AI couldn't really handle the script and got into war trouble with itself allowing me to win with a blowout tech lead in the late 1800's...

What surprised me a little with TMITs game was amassing so much gold as opposed to upping the EP slider almost constantly. And with that, stealing techs more aggressively. Seems more in the spirit of the game I played through so far to the early to mid ADs and I stole techs constantly, and would switch focused based on who had or was soon to complete the next big tech. I would trade techs for other techs and gold along the way. I essentially had a strong tech lead over most of the AIs despite the passive nature of teching in this setup.

Frankly there hasn't been a whole lot to steal that I care about. Goldbuy is less micro and when I already have enough EP output that I could put ONE TURN of EP focus and have it be enough to steal the techs...I barely cared. Gold is the most flexible resource; you can convert it into units (late game), culture, EP, science, or buy techs directly. It's also a good bargaining chip when you won't have unique techs (say for war bribes, though I knew I wouldn't need any on this map).

well I did exactly that on Emperor... Oracle->MC, GLH + Colossus with cuir/cav beatdown finished 1695AD... but on Emperor.
I just screwed up with overwhipping capital to 1AD. Without GLH and Colossus the AI's had big troubles teching.

I thought from what you said in the video that you just plan to do it yet.

to the RPC Shadow:

One of things that the gold did is I think it sped up a little bit the teching of Romans, just imagine what it would be like if you would get such monstrous gold in usual game with your teching.
I was really curious why you didn't switch focus of EP's for some turns to Romans and steal away the techs (and they were juicy from what i saw). Should be cheaper then with gold.

I'll steal from them eventually. Having a fast-teching neighbor next to you isn't a bad thing: gold for tech trades there not only give me a tech now, but help to ensure I'll have relatively new/contemporary techs as any AI later.

As for the NC game, it fell behind. I'm already posting HOMM III and earth18 along with this now, and I have sensualbenny's game set to air on the conclusion of either this or earth18. I also got a map sent to me from a viewer they'd like me to LP and have a plan for a non civ IV/V/HOMM III title too. I'd love to cover more, but youtube isn't a fulltime job (or even any kind of job) for me and I can't really keep up with 5+ running series unless it is...

@meinteam,love watching your LPs keep them coming:goodjob:

I was wondering if before you attack Rome it would be worth showcasing the Spread culture spy mission now your Espionage is focused on them.I think im right in that the city in which you built the Mandhir is in a culture war to a city to the south.

Ive used this mission myself to flip weaker border citys in peace time, but I was thinking is it worth spreading mass culture to Suillemans city before you take it militarily so as to not have to leave as many garrison troops there later to prevent city revolts.

I didn't use spread culture in this game. I know it's pretty good for securing tiles but not much point when I'm just going to take all those cities regardless :p.

Well, Rome's a tech or two away from Rifling. Let's hope for the best (that magic rifles appear).

Also, I wish I could have told you to go for Diety in NC 66 Darius, but you blazed through it before I could have told you easy that map was. Oh well, that's a good thing for the CFC community. Hope the next one is as good as NC 65 Washington.

How do you get these newly captured cities to already have a build queue?

Where are the nc series?
Nobles Club games, on this Strategy & Tips forum. Each game has a different thread, and those who play it check in to discuss their varying results.

How do you get these newly captured cities to already have a build queue?

Shift-click to queue up building orders. You can do it in any city. TMIT does it as a timesaving technique. He plays faster than my Connecticut cousins talk. In fact, he plays faster than a debate team doing the spread.

And I think that you can ctrl+click to place stuff at the beginning of a queue.

This can be useful esp early game when you have a few turns to growth, and you want to wait till pop 2 to get your worker; you can start a warrior (whatever) then ctrl+click a worker to the front of the queue once you get your 2 pop city.

Couple of notes or Questions re- shadow of RPC challange.

1) Why  didn't you take Amsterdam from Monty, capitulate him, then IMMEDIATELY gift it back to Hatty. Seemed like an obvious move to me?? just didn't care to think too hard??
2) Utterch (what ever) again, take city in capitulation, and gift it back to Hatty.

Even with 2 cities, she's unlikely to not vassalize to you, having no standing army. Maybe she'd think..."Oh I'm doing so well, having just reclaimed my 2 lost cities. maybe??

Umm on Monty not breaking vassalage, its also is relative strength to his master. If he's 25% of you, he's 30% of De Gaul. 1 v's 1.2 you/De Gaul. So won't break, till you break De Gaul.

I like the new recording method you use, can enlarge Video window and still have it clear in 480 bits, but not maximize...so Meh....not willing to go 720 myself.

One thing, I know its how you play, but you can be too quick on windows, highlights for us to follow. Keep it up, I enjoy watching these.

+1 on this question, as I was thinking exactly the same thing.

1. Cap Monte, take Amsterdam
2. Gift to Hatty
3. ???
4. Profit

I don't understand the desire to give amsterdam to hatty? I'd have had to delay capping monty (and held onto extended war weariness) for the entire fight with de gaulle, with a slight chance of persia using a galley to reclaim its capitol (unlikely though). By WHY give the city to hatty? If it stays in monty's hand, what is the harm? I just wanted that war to end so I could fight on only 1 front. Marching heavily through enemy territory (or cutting my army off from reinforcements on DoW) didn't seem too appealing...

I admit when I watched it I thought too that getting Amsterdam and giving it back to Hatty would be good play.
You wanted to peacevassal her anyway and that could be good way to do it and since she didn't had city on the mainland I think there should be some land rule kicking in after giving her the city... but this is something I am not sure about ;-).

All 8 parts are up!

Once again, slogging through enemy territory and letting the AI build up more units while doing so (all while eating 10+ turns of WW) didn't seem very appealing. If she wouldn't peacevassal (a garbage mechanic all around) as a result, screw her. It's lot like I couldn't cap her in LESS time than the marching time I'd lose later...
