Role Play Challenge, TNG: Captain Jean-Luc Picard, The Prime Directive

I'll enjoy seeing how this goes. Also, if this fails you can do one with James T. Kirk instead, where you give yourself some more freedom :D

(the newest movie must've had some impact on how he views time-travel...)

My game is so different!
Spoiler :

It is 20BC and Arabia has the AP already, half the world is Conf with him the other Bud with Spain who has Pyramids, Oracle, Parth, etc...

I just got MC Arabia has it as well and with trade it around hoping to repeat yor success.

The Chinese are also the big expansionist in the Pacific who I am now racing with for the islands, India and Japan are so far not on the high seas.

 One Complaint  Random events make shadow games really tough to play, I know I am in the minority.... But I had more barb hordes (forcing a restart), not one but TWO volcano's at my capital. I vote for huts and events off in future:)

Definatly scout more should meet most of europe as early as possible trade routs with english and german citys are exelent commerce.

Not sure how important military is the AI is generally really bad at fighting naval battles or doing naval invasions. Only one that can really be a threat is china and maybe japan.

An update on Christmas Eve

Feliz Navidad, Mad !

Merry New Year!

Boy, out of all the places to crash...

Mad, I would trade some resources around to increase the health cap and grow your cities:

-Qin: Sugar for Wheat
-Asoka: Crabs for rice
-Cyrus: Sugar for sheep
-Saladin: Banana for incense

Also there are techs to trade for and you could switch into Bureaucracy and CS or Slavery.

You can take Mad's original save, enter the worldbuilder, save it, then run it as a custom scenario to turn those off.

Your city placement is pretty good, scouting could be better. But it looks like you have a bit more going for you in tech trading, both being able to trade and avoiding negatives when the prime directive forces you not to cave to requests. I played to 990 AD and have liberalism down to 1 turn but can't trade education yet. Something of a catch 22. Everyone seems to be going for astro which is what I wanted to take from lib, but now think its a bad idea. I'm considering PP (bulb) now and debating the risk. If ed and something can be dealt for astro ... SM opens up. The prime directive is screwing with normal strategy.

The prime directive also has another side effect, increased micro. Since you can't give a tech in response to a demand without someone else having it, each and every turn you need to check it's status. The micro gets more and more tiresome as the game progresses.
Edit: Comedy of errors ...Spoiler
Spoiler :
Can't seem seem to stay on the biology bulbing path. Really mangled the beeline, hit WAAYABTA in the process. Asoka vassaled to Qin. Yet for all the mistakes, Qin and Musa are friendly. Not sure about a win being possible but at least the diplo with the neighbors is good atm. Apx 1350 AD.

Can we adopt a religon?

Yes we can although I have not, because of circumstances not any RPC angle.

I am putting together the next segment.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Startdate 795AD

RIKER: "Captain, the native aborgines are suggesting we speed up mapping of the lands as well as trade off our spare resources. While we recall maps of earth in our time, perhaps this is a good idea as we can learn where these nations lie. Also, I strongly suggest we continue tech trading as the Prime Directive does not come into effect here, in fact captain earth at 795 AD appears to be out-teching us by quite a bit."

PICARD: "Patience number One, our research shall improve, but I agree on all you said. Send out spare Galley off exploring and make those trades."

PicD0000.jpg

WORF: "Captain, I all for improving our sickly military but could you at least get me a technology where we have a resource to use!"

RIKER:"Captain, we have an opportunity to improve our exploration by a rgeat deal. Mansa Musa offers us a trade and I suggest we research paper for map making"

PicD0001.jpg

Picard: "Excellent Number One, we shall start on a caravel in Botany Bay while beginning whale hunting off the coast of New Zealand. But remember our own History and please refrain from harvesting the Humpback Whales. Tell me, exactly where is our research now Mr. Laforge."

PicD0002.jpg

LaForge: "Captain, I recommend going along the paper/education/liberalism path as that can lead to the practise of Free Religion as well as a jump in our research."

WORF: "CAPTAIN, OUR DEFENSES!"

Picard: "Of course Mr. Worf. Will, see to it please."

PicD0003.jpg

PicD0004.jpg

Riker: "Captain, we have met the Russian Czarina Catherine the Great."

PicD0005.jpg

Picard: "Ah Number One. The Chaste Queen who's love of horses was well documented. Be gentle number one, do not offend the lady."

Riker: "SIR! She is anything but Chaste and that myth about horses is not exactly along the conservationalist path that we learned about. Frankly sir I was lucky to get out of her residence with my life. However, is fleeing from her I came across "

PicD0006.jpg

Riker: "And sir, this one is a religious fanatic. I was forced to spend endless hours listerning to her tales of the piotous life and I second Jordi's technology path towards Free Religion. Now Captain, if you excuse me I need a bath!"

Dr. Crusher: "Captian, we have settled the last region that we discussed."

PicD0007.jpg

Dr. Crusher:" Should we start settling the polynesian island now sir or wait."

Picard: "No Beverly, let's wait until the issue of discovering LIberalism is set to rest."

Laforge: "Captain, we have finished paper and looks like we are not the first to it."

PicD0008.jpg

Picard: "Excellent, inform Commander Riker and let him begine trading."

PicD0009.jpg

PicD0010.jpg

Riker: "Sir, between the Mali Map. the spare Galley and our caravel we are making excellent progress on world exploration. We also discovered a leader I have never heard of before."

PicD0011.jpg

Picard: "There was an old myth Number One of an Egyptian Pharoh that was actually a women. It appears this was not exactly a myth but had an element of truth. Let's hope the lady does not give as mush trouble as the Russian and Spanish Queens. Now, how is the caravel going"

PicD0012.jpg

PicD0014.jpg

Riker: "Sir, we have met the New World. The tales of a jungle paradise are greatly mistaken, the Incans appear OK but they are vassaled to the Aztecs who appear incredibly brutal. Sir, they are practicing human sacrifice on blood stained alters!"

Picard: "Are you certain Number One, that was what people thought of the original inhabitants of North America, the Americans."

Riker: "I fear it's accurate captian. I have obtained an open borders but contrary to our early understanding of the intellectual and distinguished Montezuma I think we should tred lightly."

Picard: "Agreed! But have you located the Americans?"

Riker" "Yes sir, we have met Roosevelt and he is not the hulking beheamouth warrior that legend has slew the monster leaders of the twnetieth centuries with his bare hands. In fact, he appears to be crippled and wears glasses."

PicD0016.jpg

LaForge: "Sorry to interupt Captain, but I thought you would want to know we completed Education."

PicD0017.jpg

Laforge:" And as with paper we are not the first to it. Asoka also has it"

Picard: "Very well, continue towards Liberalism and get what we can for education. We are obligated to educate the world if the Violent Indians already have it."

PicD0018.jpg

PicD0019.jpg

PicD0021.jpg

PicD0022.jpg

Picard: "Excellent work Number One! Are we in danger of losing the liberalism race?"

To Be COntinued............................................

You should go for the circumnavigation bonus. It only makes sense considering that you're going to be defending a group of islands.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: StarDate 795AD continued

Riker:"Sir we are in excellent shape as the Indians are pursuing economics. In fact the Egyptian Map has given us an excellent view of the world."

PicD0023.jpg

Riker: "And the maps sir have given or ships faster movement, we can now outrun all vessels. We also can allow this trade with the Mali"

PicD0024.jpg

Riker: "Captain, we have also met the English, led by Queen Elizabeth herself."

PicD0025.jpg

Riker: "Sir, we also have to opportunity to make even more trades before Jordi finishes liberalism."

PicD0026.jpg

PicD0027.jpg

"Riker: "As well as meeting the Germans."

PicD0028.jpg

LaForge: "Sir, we have finished researching Liberalism, what free technology do we want to explore."

PicD0029.jpg

Picard: "Constitution Mr. Laforge. That is a noble subject that we can give to the world, epsecially since the Indians appear to have already discovered it. Will, see what we can get in trades nows."

PicD0030.jpg

PicD0031.jpg

Worf: "Finally, now we can defend ourselves in honor with gunpowder!"

Picard: "Now number One, what exactly is the tech situation."

PicD0032.jpg

So I saved here, deciding how to proceed now.

We did adjust civics

PicD0033.jpg

Once we have economics we can swap to free market.

We are also chain irrigating eastern Australia

PicD0034.jpg

We have the Maori in the capital and eventually plan the Ironworks. With Buracracy we should have at least one city capable of building the space ship. In Stargazer we are building the national epic and with all of those farms we should have a decent late game GP pump. Corporations are definitely the way to go here.

Lastly, the cities

PicD0035.jpg

So there we have it. I am looking at economics for free market, then perhaps scientific method/physics/biology. I think delaying rifling/steel may make sense here, but getting chemistry is a priority expecially since we need it for Biology.

As always the Captian looks for excellent advice!

Coroparations are definatly the way to go in the end my capital was producing 1100 gold each turn thanks to all coroparations. Rush buying wonders late game ftw

For some reason I read this as 'Poirot, The Prime Detective' and I wondered what the hell that had to do with Australia .

1984 game pl0x.

Ahh... we'd have to re-create the superpowers. Amazing book. If someone could pull that off, it'd be fabulous.

How were you able to trade away Liberalism the same turn you won the race? Isn't that against the Prime Directive?

Corporations may help, but the crew crash landed in diplo paradise. Get the AI to friendly, build a tech engine that leaves them in the dust. Production at the end is not too big a problem.
