Role Play Challenge, TNG: Simon Bolivar, Rise of the Amazon

If Monty gets tangled up with SB, can you poach those amazon cities from him?

If Monty gets tangled up with SB, can you poach those amazon cities from him?

I was thinking of that however he is still stacked and Amazon production is not exactly too robust now. However, I can certainly start directing espionage towards Monty and perhaps up the ep slider.

I don't think you're as in trouble as you think. While the situation certainly isn't good, the land is pretty much built to get into a large hole and then pull out late. And with this many people, you just need to get a monopoly tech or two to get back to a respectable spot.

That said, I think you did make a huge mistake in going down the optics line. This isn't an isolation game, 4 other people on your continent is more than enough to trade and tech quickly with. Now your stuck with 3 or 4 useless techs, and the people in the old world can't even help you because they're so far ahead in tech. 4 trading partners is more than enough to make a quick liberalism push and go from there.

You did catch a pretty raw deal with America getting 2 of the 3 early religions, makes your situation tougher, and the old world as Jewish buddies.

From here, I would say forget about the old world completely. You can take over America and win like that. Even if it takes you a long time, there is enough land to overcome the huge head start. I'm a fish out of water in situations like this, but if there is anyone who can win by slogging through medieval warfare in the 1500's and later, its you.

Yikes, another Satan game!

The monopoly tech is what I was thinking although that is tough and Liberalism has already fallen. I have also yet to meet asia which may have some surprises there.

I agree on the optics beeline, but hell no one likes the UU and thought I would flount it a bit. egads how bad was that!

I don't think beelining Optics was that big a mistake
n020.gif

First, you would have needed it anyway to go for Astronomy and your UB. Second, you can at least make some minor trades as the other Old World leaders don't have it.

What about bulbing part of Astronomy with your GS and making a fire sale ?

Check the bulb tables and see what you would get for a GA (or what you could manouver to quickly by strategic teching). I can see a scenario where caste-enabled Artist spam in Sanat Cruz (sic) could flip one of Monty's jungle cities and give you a tradable tech while not ruffling SBs feathers.

Awsome UU if playing terra map. But IMHO, your optics beeline was not fast enough. By the way this is a very educational setup and I am learning alot. I think I will also give the Isreal map a go too.:goodjob:

As a typical lazy man, I only wish that the game was set up in Buffy, but that could be cheating instead of real micro management.

I played my game up to 1345 AD.

Spoiler :
My first session ended when I DOW Monty and took his Panama City. I was hoping to get Honduras but by the time my units gathered at the silver Hill, He got LB's. Crap. So I sued for peace since I did not want to do pop rushing too much. He wanted his city back for peace. But that is just crazy. But he would also take a tech for peace. So Peace it was.

My GP city was not coastal as yours, it was 2 tiles north of yours and was allowed to grow to max with 2 corn, 1 game and 1 plains corn. Next I used my GS to bulb Philo and change civics to Philosophy and CS again. Did some major trading including Compass and Machinary from Washington, who was Friendly by now. By the time next GS was born, I was able to half bulb Astro and trade to get most techs to open up Education for Next GS.

Met most of the european and african AI during the process and that is how I was able to tech trade so well. Ragnar was doing so so and I gifted him a tech to make him pleased. That also help with trades. That is when I realized that Hanny is able to research Liberalism . I was hoping that he will stay true to his greedy ways and heading to Economics. So I shut down my economy and waited for the GS's to show up. Two GS's bulbed Education for me and I traded around to get many techs and alot of gold. Turn science to 100% and played with each city until no of turns droped to 11 at -125+ deficit. Just two turns before its due I hear the chime :( but that was for someone proving the world is round. So on 1325AD we get Liberalism and Chemistry from it. 3 turns later, get Astro and trade it to get near tech parity. In the mean time I get the apostolic religion; Buddhism. So at the stopping point I am bussy building 2 monastaries so I can spread around to other cities for hammers. I have two to many techs on all others and they have Economics and Charleman has SM which he is willing to trade.

Question: Do we loose the AP hammer from the Monastary if we learn SM?

Looked at the current save and its painful seeing Monty on all those green rivers. No DoWbt you have a master plan to misspell your way to victory?

Whoops, missed the start of that RPC. Well, I'm here now.

:eek::eek: Do SOMETHING! (I haven't played civ in 6 months thanks to my wondrous computer, so I can't tell you what to do.) Perhaps espionage? You dealt with this in the Satan game, as some have already said.

Well, I am not really sure how much further this RPC will go. I want to play out a few more turns before I post it but seams tech is a hopeless hole we cannot crawl out of. Sitting Bull has vassaled Monty and half the Old World hates us.

Expect an update later tonight, one way or another.

Simon Bolivar, Rise of the Amazon: Part IV

Bolivar paced across the floor of his palace. "This is terrible, thousands of soldiers would be better, but the world just considers the Amazon, nothing"

Indeed, the world appears to be passing south America by.

"Amazons, start on Astronomy!"

And immediately Bolivar starts trading off Optics while he builds Carracks to search the world, perhaps there are worse off civilizations thatn the Amazon.

BolivarD0001.jpg

Not much although Calendar does open up Atronomy.

The next point of business, what to do with teh Great Scientist

BolivarD0002.jpg

While bulbing Astronomy seams like a good idea, the trade value is poor. Bolivar opts for a Golden Age to trigger off civic changes

BolivarD0003.jpg

Time to try an pump out as many Great people as we can get.

A few turns at Civil service allows us to shoot off a few more trades.

BolivarD0004.jpg

BolivarD0005.jpg

Great, only 39 turns until Astronomy! Oh wait, I don't play Marathon anymore, never mind, it sucks.

Quickly another GS pops

BolivarD0006.jpg

Bolivar uses this Genius and all future genius's to found academies. Time to start investing in the future, this will be a LONG ride.

Near the end of the Golden Age we swap civics again

BolivarD0007.jpg

And we start meeting more of the Old World.

BolivarD0008.jpg

BolivarD0009.jpg

BolivarD0010.jpg

An assortment of strong leaders there! At least we can fight Churchill for having the lowest score!

And Bolivar slaps his forhead at the stupidity of letting this happen.

BolivarD0011.jpg

To call this an ill-played RPC would be incredibly kind!

At this popint our Carrack heading towards the Pacific found some leaders

BolivarD0012.jpg

BolivarD0013.jpg

BolivarD0014.jpg

BolivarD0015.jpg

BolivarD0016.jpg

BolivarD0017.jpg

We opened border with everyone, made some decent resource for gold trades since everyone else has astronomy, and scowled at being so far behind in tech that we cannot shoot off a trade.

Then FINALLY

BolivarD0018.jpg

And the world improved a little as massives amount of commerce rolled in from overseas trade routes. Our trade prospects were

BolivarD0019.jpg

Limited.

To Be Continued.......

Simon Bolivar, Rise of the Amazon: Part IV continued.

As Washington tends to be the biggest miser here (well except for Sitting Bull who won't trade), we offered him astronomy first

BolivarD0020.jpg

So let's see the world

North America

BolivarD0021.jpg

Africa

BolivarD0022.jpg

Europe

BolivarD0023.jpg

Asia

BolivarD0024.jpg

well the Jewish lovefest has allowed all eladers to get nice and friendly with each other. Damn!

Next trade was with Hyuna

BolivarD0025.jpg

And while we were cruising along researching NAtionalism and paper next for potential trade fodder, Tokugawa came by demanding our treasury.

BolivarD0026.jpg

Nothing to do about it, we caved in not wanting a war against Japan.

we then researched Printing Press simply because it looked like we could trade it

BolivarD0028.jpg

Oh yeah, we got music as a gift from Kublai!

BolivarD0029.jpg

Not much, but anything helps here.

Sitting Bull declared war on Monty, quickly forcing

BolivarD0030.jpg

So the New World is basically the Native Americans and the Amazon, with alot of powerful Old World leaders with "Enough on their hands" who hates us.

Next on the research platform was education, followed by Liberalism. After that we have civic choices and the opportunity for some trades

BolivarD0032.jpg

MUSKETS!!!!! Some sound defense there, at for a little while.

BolivarD0033.jpg

Just trade fodder for later on.

So we are researching Scientific Method (9 turns) and waiting to make more trades, perhaps I can pry it away from Washington in a few turns.

BolivarD0034.jpg

Diplomatically

BolivarD0035.jpg

A hell of alot of DPs there!

The biggest issue here is what to do with the civics??? My preference is natiohood to draft defending muskets and Free Religion to cool off the Old World tempers. Howeverm FR will tarnish the New World relations who are only trading partners at the moment, plus I prefer to nab economics before the big civic change. Also representation may be helpful if we can trade for it, but several Old World leaders are kept OK in diplomacy using HR.

Seams like alot to decide in a few turns, which is why I saved here.

Ideally, Biology, State Property and Steam Power can really bust South America out. IF we survive to that point.

After Scientific method I think it's Communism/Chemistry/Biology

I would put some turns into Econ now and try and get it from monty for Divine right. Take Free religion; If sitting Bull comes at you at least you will be fighting at Tech parity and you will have cities to take in a counter attack if you can. In contrast, IF the old world invades you could get a stack of rifles and cannons landing next to your capital.....

:goodjob: pulling yourself by the boot strap.

Your experience really shows here. I would have been in a defensive war against Toku right now. Humm that is probably why my high level games suffer :crazyeye:.

Spoiler :
I got dowed by Chinese and Khemer in my game a turn before I get Rifle because I played my diplo poorly. 2 or 3 turns later, russians jumped in. Amazons were in 4th place behind Russian leader at the time. She DOWed and took my undefended coastal city since I pulled the units away to helpout Panama City. Upgraded about 6 swords/LB/Axes to Rifle and launched a GA, switched to Nationalism(?) and drafted like crazy. Oh yeah Zulu also attacked. Amazonians killed off all attackers and got gold for peace from all but Cathy. She wanted a tech or the city I took back from her. Hell no. By the end of it, we went from 13 the place for Military to 6th.

Then the AP came to her rescue() and asked to stop the aggression against poor Cathy. What's up with that? She attacked me, not other way around. (My god I am sounding like my two kids.)

Any ways right after that SB invited us to join the war party against Monty. We accepted and start taking his Cities. Well only three when I realized it was 12 midnight and kept my promose to my wife and went to sleep.

Monties Capital is a major boon. 4 settled GG and 2 GE's. Got two corn and a bunch of hills. I like that Monty (now that I have rifle and him not even having ....well alot of techs) for doing that. I also have 3 GG's settled in my HE city and 1 super healer.

So the plan is to finish Communism, switch to SP and run the tech route while taking over all but Washington since he was nice to us. He is pretty weak but I won't attack him unless he does first. Then the plan is to go oversees to crush and accuire the following Civ's in the order of their attack on us. Chinese, Khemer, Zulu and Russian. I will raze all Russian Cities since AP will give them back to her. And this is the reason I have trouble in my high level games. I am revenge motivated over inteligent winning stratergies.

You've made progress! Shaka is in war mode and he's annoyed only with you and Sitting Bull. At least SB is worst enemy of a lot of AIs, but watch out.

Bravo for not giving up! As you say, there's a chance of pulling something out of the bag if you survive long enough... Just hope the Eurasians dogpile SB and not you. Good luck!

i think you should have revolted out of Hinduism (either to pegan or Free religion) asap after it got clear that SB would gobble up everything, and you started meeting oldworlders ...

Somehow, The Amazon is still alive and slowly moving up in tech. Too late to post the full game, so here is the save.
