Role Playing Challenge: Persians In Space!

Good start. We obviously want to have a wheat tile in our BFC, so we must move the settler. 1N and 1E are the possibilities. 1N looks better and if we settle there, we know everything for the BFC. Fortunately we have a scout and we can verify, that 1E isnt the better move. There is no sence to move the scout in west destination, because it is not important what it will reveal. So move the scout 1N2E. If nothing important pops, settle 1N.

Teching. I think, no doubts about AH first. We have the both prerequest techs for maximum discount, we want to pasture the cows ASAP and we want to know the answer of the very important question: "Is there horses nearby, or not?" ( I really want to see those nice Immortals in action). Second Minning. If we have horses we can postpone BW and skip Archery, so Wheel(for Immo), Pottery next. If we dont have horses Archery/BW. We dont want cottages right now, the worker will be busy enough.

Build

Of course Worker first. Maybe Warrior-Scout-Settler next. But now is early for this.

I whod like to play this start, Could you post your saved game maybe? Settle 1N look best. I guess you want that wheet in the BFC and together with the cows and hills it will be a great production city.

1N seems obvious, no turn loss and from what we can see no resource loss. On the other hand you're still risking 2 possible resource losses by moving. S of the cow and S of the western plains hill. Map generator tends to give you good resources in your initial fat cross which would argue against moving.

Still riverside wheat up north is nice. Pretty good start for a cottage spam game, lots of extra commerce from rivers. :yup:

Save has been attached to the OP.

OK, I usually do not over analyze that much, but with the style of the game, lack of quick buildings, and overall goal I think setting up the capital is important.

I am all for settling 1 spot North, my comments all go from that.

We start with hunting/agriculture. We can start building a worker first to hook up the wheat. This is obvious to me.

We tech AH first. After that we have several good options: Archery (you all know my preference here), the wheel (for Immortals, roads, unlock Pottery), or mining. Archery if we see no easy horses, the wheel if we find horses nearby, mining can be delayed because of the cows.

If we move north we get the following

1 Wheat = 5 food, 1 hammer
5 riverside grasslands are self fedd cottages
2 plains cows = 3H, 3F
5 Hills
3 Plains
Plus several unidentified spots which look to be riverside, probably gasslands.
What this tells me is that we are going to have little use of the hills, as we will not have enough food to work them. Am I correct in this thinking? The other point is once we have towns (with US) and levees we have ALOT of production even without mined hills.

SO since moving 1 north makes alot of sense, why does the program recommend settling in place?? I am willing to bet that the grassland 1SSE is a military resource. If it is that will be at least 3 hammers, more if copper or iron.

After the first few techs and if we have nearby horses I am all for ignoring BW and Mining for a bit.

Persians in Space: Cyrus' Vision Part I

Wel a rather noneventful start, and after dealing with those 2 Peter games I am glad! Looks like we have some decent land but appear to be isolated although I am not 100% certain as I will go into detail later.

But first of all, where do we begin

We move the scout

CyA0000.jpg

Hmm, some seafood and cows to the west. We decide to settle 1 spot north as suggested. We want that wheat in the capital BFC!

CyA0001.jpg

First build is a worker, followed by numerous warriors, a settler, barracks, a worker, and so forth. We held off archery a bit because of teh isolated start.

Techwise for the game so far: AH/wheel/pottery/archery/mysticism/fishing/mining/BW

After AH we find horses is a pretty good, food rich area.

CyA0002.jpg

AFter teching, exporing, worker improvement, cottaging I saved it. However, one other item I discovered later and started to explore

Here is the continent so far

CyA0003.jpg

The northern part

CyA0004.jpg

Southern Part

CyA0005.jpg

AND....

CyA0006.jpg

That blocked off area with the mountain I ignored but looks like there is more good land, and possibly some other AIs. Definitely part of our land mass.

As of the save there is a settler heading towards the spice to settle on top.
We also made a run at Stonehenge which we lost but got us some desperately needed gold until we got the commerce producing cottages started.

SO how do we approach this??

1) We are isolated as I am sure an AI would have sent a workboat to us by now. Now refreshing my memory there are two ways of approaching this
A) Beeline compass and Optic as we did in Willem game and Sis' Ragnar ALC.
B) Let the AIs find us via the usual strat from the lonely hearts game series.

2) Settling. I see 5 good city sites, and 4-5 more on the main land mass. That is before we even reach the area east of the blocking Mountain.

3) We have copper in some of the least productive areas. Unless we make a run at the colossus (I would rather work the cottages) I see no reason to rush those cities. We do have Immortals to supplement our archers.

4) Happiness. Not many sources at all. Temporarily we can use Monarchy, but once we get US it will be more of an issue. I see spices and furs, that's it.

5) GP farm. ANy ideas???? Looks like the horse city is the best spot for now.

Not such great land given the cottage focus. Some more rivers would have been nice.

Those mountains are a pain but I am guessing there will be at least 4 city sites on other landmass.

I vote for an optics beeline to meet other civs and ensure +1 movement which could be crucial for defence late game.

I would move the scout the the hills northwest of the western cows. See if you want to use that corn to support a second city. The southeastern corn should be in the capital's BFC because with tundra to the south it might end up in some worthless tundra city. I would consider moving the settler two east and splitting the cows and corn between two cities. The capital as it stands or one north looks to be food poor and not a lot of good cottage sites for the mandatory CE. You lose the riverside bonus but your UB gives back the +2 :health:

LOl, I should have read the entire postings to realize you had setteled your capital already

Did you consider settling Susa 1NW? I think this could have made a pretty good production city with copper in its BFC.
Anyway, you have a fairly good landmass to REX into -- agree that you should settle on the spice next. Curious to see what else lies to the east...

Good point except I settled Susa long before I teched BW. No regrest though, another coastal city is not a bad thing.

Ahh, fair enough; I just realised you teched BW quite late so that explains it.

Persians in Space: Cyrus' Vision Part II

We ll here we are for the next update. Rather uneventful as we progress withour CE game. However we find we are not alone

Speeaking of the devil

CyB0000.jpg

Yep, old Sal. And it is just me and him on a Quasi connected continent. Weel, easy to get him friendly, adopt Hinduism at the easliest convienence. The trick will be keeping him friendly and allow ourselves to adopt FR if we desire.

Our tech path this segment

Writing/sailing/IW/Masonry/Aesthetics/Polytheism/Litersture/Meditation/MAth (start)

IW shows us why the computer recommended settling 1S of where we actually did

CyB0001.jpg

Definitely glad we settled where we did.

We explored Sal's hald with an immortal

CyB0003.jpg

Nice land, too bad Sal quickled settled it once he found us.

We razed a Barb city, which gave us 120 gold and in the middle os Sal's region. We gifted it to Sal.

Full view of Sal's side

CyB0005.jpg

And after what took forever.

CyB0004.jpg

we adopt Hinuism.

Once we started on Math I saved it, here is the northern half

CyB0007.jpg

And southern half (yes a bad city to get us fish and fur).

CyB0008.jpg

The way I see it we can settle at least 2 more cities, possibly more as I paln to cram them in as suggested in previous posts.

Demographics show we are tops in GNP and #2 in Production.

CyB0009.jpg

A look at our 4 top cities

CyB0010.jpg

CyB0012.jpg

CyB0013.jpg

As you can see are leveraging the marble resource and building both the Parthenon and GL, which we should get as the AI low priorities the Parthenon and teching Aesthetics. THe idea is to pop alot of GS's to get liberalism fast and go from there.

Looks like things are progressing nicely. Not much action but that can shange once we meet some AIs.

I"ve decided to Shadow your game MD, as you made mention you'd be intereste in a SE/FE comparison, so I'm doing that.

Spoiler :
For a start, I settled 1 SOUTH...just to be different....not a good choice I know....but...different

Settled 3 cities, planning on 6 or so....Salidin found me first, with work boat...and now a galley nosing about. building Monuments/walls in all cities and I'm mainly settling the coast first.

Plan for a city to take fish/crabs/fur...unlike you, and 2nd city to the NW, with cow's/wheat/fish, will be my Maoi Statutes/Great Lighthouse city/Colossus, Looking for a sling shot to Metal casting off Oracle. So will settle ONTO OF MARBLE.

Going ok, GOT Great Wall, shooting for Pyamids now..Capital is spamming settlers/Pyramids, Researching to Oracle now. It's 1290 BC and only just on Poly..

Reseaech was Animal Husbandry/Masonary/mining/sailing/bronze working/sailing/Poly/Priesthood/Pottery-Metal casting free-build Colossus.

Moai Stat's will go in this city, as has most hammers on coast, looking to block off coast, then settle inland...

Hmm have 'ignored your spoilers'.lol...you know..play as if ignorant..not hard for me...lol.......FARMING EVERYTHING.....better get pottery I suppose..lol

Hmm got as far as 10 ad...so infront time wise

Spoiler :
but lagging in tech...Hmmm

Went for Metal casting, LOST THE ORACLE in 1000 BC  , thought I was safe as Stone henge took so long...

Built the Temple of Armitis/Great Lighthouse, so 3 trade routes in coastal cities, hehehe...all coastal EXCEPT capital.

Currently building Forges as of save, will whip all at 2 pop, built Pyramids so in Rep/slavery.

Capital will continue to spam settlers, going Asthetics/Lit next, for great Libairy

Oh yeah, did the 7 charriots quest...ho hum...combat 1 for all...double Salidins score...Hmm MIght go kill him or vassalise if I do Fudelism...

Might as well use the charriots....heh heh heh

Have Built Maoi Stat's where I said...Forge/Collossus next...BETTER NOT GET BEATEN TO THAT....

Put 1 city by copper near the Mountain blockade..Thinking another on Desert by copper, can farm from lake.

Remaining cities all along the coast.....Faming, farming, farming.

After Lit, Hmm maybe Fudalism/Iron-optics?...dunno.....

I'd like to vassalise sal, and take Hindu shrine....WHEN HE BUILDS IT...IDIOT!!

I need Librairy's..My people are SOOOO ILLITERATE File follows

Persians in Space: Cyrus' Vision: Part III

Another good round although rather uneventful as far as these RPCs go.

First, our tech path this segment

Math/Currency/CoL/Alphabet(got us construction and Monotheism from Sal)/MC/Compass/Machinery/optics

The moment we finished optics we found another AI, but more on that later.

We got the 2 wonders we were building

CyC0000.jpg

CyC0001.jpg

Started on the national epic in horse city and got our GP pumping GS's. We got three, all of which were used for academies in the first three cities founded. Phil takes 16 turns and seams like a waste as I have noone to trade with (sal is behind), those academies last all game and the cities are heavily cottaged already.

Once we got alphabet, we got this trade off to Sal

CyC0003.jpg

Soon after an update on our tech pace.

CyC0004.jpg

Pretty good considering we are essentially isolated. Sal is helping a little in tech trade and trade routes but not all that much. Those cottages are pumping our ALOT of research.

Another trade

CyC0005.jpg

And a request which we agree to.

CyC0006.jpg

Sal is now up to friendly without having to run his favorite civic theocracy. Also he is off limits for military action unless things degenerate. The question will be later whther to adopt FR and risk that close bond falling apart. We are way ahead in tech and can see a cavalry/rifle/cannon assault later to take him out.

We teched optics, our ocean visability pops 1 and low and behold.

CyC0007.jpg

The more friendly of the Germans, very nice.

An early trade

CyC0008.jpg

And Fred's location

CyC0009.jpg

Him and Sal have not met yet.

Tech so far. I see no obvious reason to go for Fuedalism from fred yet.

Our cities

CyC0011.jpg

Finish courthouses and forges, then build some crossbows for defense and maybe some cats, just to keep those mischevious thoughts away from Sal and possibly Fred (who is Judaist).

SO right now I am looking to settle 1-2 more cities, work those cottages, and beeline Civil Service (maces)/paper/education/liberalism and take nationalism for free to work on the Taj (since we have marble). Our next 2 GS's will bulb us most of education and printing press, getting us into the stronge CE. After PP we can toy arround with guilds/banking/repalcable part/gunpowder/rifling or straight to constitution/democracy. All depends on what we find out there.

Sorry if this one is rather uneventful and dry (boring:rolleyes: ) but part of these RPCs is also educational. This is a very good example of a CE going for the classic liberalism path, with a little diversion down the optics/isolated start tech path.

Remember, Cyrus is Imperialistic/Charismatic and does not have any of the ideal traits for a CE (or SE) game.

Also I have not adopted any civics yet. Just got Monarchy, slavery is forbidden and we cannot run anymore scientists in the GP city than the library allows anyway. we can probably wait a few turns without swapping to HE, calender would get us another happy from the silkw e settled on. We also popped silver from a mine and forgers help there. Also markets help with happiness from silk and furs, plus we can build a coleseum and temple ine ach city. Probably have enough happiness right there up to democracy.

How am I doing at 655 AD???

 Well, done, your doing exceeding well, me...well........
Spoiler :

I'm doing exceeding crapply....lol..........

1) I went to war with Sal, once I got Longbows, as he had only archers, and was friendly, traded with me too as I was only one he knew...Adopted Hinduism, which Sal founded helped. But that didn't last I'm averice in greed, and I needed more lands, so war it was. Ferrying troops 2 at a time on Galley's was a pain, initially it was 6/time * 2 them chain link 2 at a time to get straight into new city.

Long war, killed my economy, Sal never got past bow's, went for Engineering, but died in end, got Machinery, but with no iron, was dead.

2) Washington was first AI to find me, and I thought was leading the pack initially, a LOT OF GG's being born (Far away). Optics popped for Freddrick, but not untill I'd met Justinian. In short order, Ceaser, Isobela (vassal of Julius)

3) Quests, got 2, achieved 2, the Collosseum Quest, with Statute Of Zeus, (yes, built that, as well as Pathenon, Great Librairy, Great Light house, Collossus), got a free golden age out of that, Castle Quest lol, got that one, when I was FURIOUSLY building CASTLES in ALL CITIES *as all Coastal*, got +3 relations boost with that...YESSSSSSS...i THINK it REALLY saved me from Justinian

4) Washington who I assumed was tech leader, ended up Vassalizing to Justinian, with no war, Hmm must have been previous war, and just though "save me from Ceasar"

5) Wonders being built left and right, BEFORE I could get tech's...Hagia Sofia, Ancor wat, Apoloptic palace, Taj Mahal hall. Lost Liberialism to WASHINGTON. I'm about ohh 8/9 tech BEHIND.....aaarrrgghhh...Farming all available land and building Markets/Libriary's/Grocers (what ever special building is)

6) Just got Astronomy, beaten to it by Freddrick, who's behind me...Had to trade Philosophy for Guilds, But JUSTINIAN DOESN'T HAVE HORSES......yeah baby, I nearly traded.....NEARLY TRADED HORSES TO HIM, thinking it might casuse Strife on the Main Island...but as he had Astronomy, and I looked rather juicy with Longbow's of 1/city for defence...Nah, 13 gold ain't worth losing my new lands for.

7) Path now, Chemisty is a MUST...SEA DEFENCE THEN Rifles. Going to have to tech most of it my self, from behind. Justinian Declared on Freddrick, Just as I got Astronomy, Sailed 3 galleons by my lands to declare, so has done a virtual Circumnavigation to decare war, so I bearly avoided it. Been furiously building Castles/long bow's out of Military city, coming out with Garrison 3, so dodged a bullet.

8) Summary, +3 castle Quest, saved me, Ceasar has demanded gold twice, refused twice, as no Astronomy for him. Justinian no demands, but as I'm Hindu and he's Buddist, Not looking good long term. Washington and Izzy both vassals to Justinian and Ceasar respectively. Got as far as 1450 or so. Not looking good for the SE. Settled ALL Great People so far. Path, Liberialism/nationalism/banking for change to Free Religion(no religion angist)/Nationalism(drafting)/banking(Mercantilism). Statute Of Liberty seems to be gone as few have Repersentation, and I'm still 6 from nationalism, but I'll try....

civics are/(will be) Repsentation/Bureauracy(nationalism)/Decentalisation(Mercantilism)/Organised religion(Free religion)

Built most building needed, Universities need education so build as I build them. Holy city of Hinduism is my designated wall street city, have Forbidden palace near that city, national parks city will go by the whale in sal's lands, I chopped 2 forests before I realised what I was doing..IDIOTCY

What I hope, is that Justinian and Ceasar BOTH go for Domination. Tear each other apart, and I remain strong enough to deter them both.

Its the Stars of Bust for Cyrus........Via a Full Specialist Economy to the bitter end, no Transition.

Notes AFTER looking at your save; Lucy dog, popped silver, NOT for me, as I said settled 1 south, in hindsite, Hmmm food poor...Sal didn't settle NEAR THE 2 Incense, Mecca was Hindu holy city. Your doing better than me, but how are the 2 BIG DOGS doing on the Main continent, that'll be intersting.

File attached http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/74511/BANKING_but_thinking.CivBeyondSwordSave
Awaiting further updates/comparrisons

It may not be as action packed as Monty, but watching a solid game is never a bad thing. I'm still waiting for the Shaka-cultural :D
I don't know what else to say other than keep on techin'. Diplomacy may get trickier once Sal meets Fred, since I'm sure the different religions will make Sal hate him, but it's nothing out of control.

 Played further...will wait til you catch up....but
Spoiler :

:D O-lay O-lay, hey hey...O-lay O-lay... AGAINST:crazyeye: My expectations and some trading....I ACHIEVED THE STATUTE OF LIBERTY...the Light has come to my lands..........

1) Traded Astronomy to Ceasar for banking and nationalism....
Traded to the vassal Izzy for Education and I paid some gold, more than initially indicated, so it was discounted once spread to vassal or master.

2) Beelined Democracy..Picked up Gunpowder and replaceable parts from Freddrick for Nationalism. Saved me overall proberly 20 turns.

3) Built the SOL in my MEGA CAPITAL, ALA Obsolete *Sorry Obsolete, I burnt a Great Scientist on a golden age*, I feel so dirty now.....but I was pushing hard for SOL...starting 30 turns behind...

4) Starved the capital to get it out, then 100% research to gain Liberialism within the golden age.

5) Change my civics to Nationalism/Mercantilism/Free religion.

While all this was going on Ceasar decided to Declare war!!, ok...panic, next turn...Apoloctic palace resolution, "stop the war AGAINST Ceasar"...  I can't belive it.....did I vote yes....in 0.5 sec's after I half read the resoultion...

Caesar, went on to Dec on Freddrick, after Justinian had had a bite..Go for it Ceasar.

All A.I's are "afraid of Ceasars Military might"....Hmm but I've now got RIFLES..BABY....BFG's....So I'll Spam rifles........delete Longbows as required.

I've come within 100 points of leader, but still down on techs..but beelineing I'll gain trade bait for what I'm after...

forward now.......Hmmm Biology or Steel......I"m leaning to steel.....Freddrick has Corporations, (wall street), but, Washington is researching physics...so it's gone....Hmmm

Note: :p  am I every happy, am I what:confused: Celebrate......:goodjob: The golden age did it......

Again, sorry Obsolete, I tried to follow your lead, but I PANICED....Early war, killed my research...I needed the golden age.....I feel like I've sullied your EXCELLENT example of game play....BUT....EARLY WAR KILLED ME..virtually on 2nd land mass, even though conjoined to mine, but 2 mountain seperation.

Last Point Statute of Liberty is MINE!!!!!
