I have downloaded latest BtS patch, and copied the RoM 2.92 folder to BtS mods folder.
Every other mod goes on, but RoM doesn't. Game turns off and then instead of loading mod, screen changes resolution to very low for a less than a second and goes normal back again, after that nothing happens.
When I try to install AND 1.75 it won't, I get this message:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher"
And there's no way I can install it.
Now I reinstalled BtS and installed it in the Program Files folder instead of Program files x86. Civ and other mods still work but I got the same problem with RoM and AND.
I've got Windows 7 64-bit.
Could you help me please? :)

anyone?

Today screen goes black for a one second and then after that happens when I look into processes, game's off, it's no longer in processes.

Now I reinstalled BtS and installed it in the Program Files folder instead of Program files x86.

Should really be in the Program files x86.

Are you running as Administrator? You may need to disable the UAC.

JosEPh :)

The UAC has been a constant problem for Vista and 7 OSs.

That's why I stuck with XP Pro x64 instead of 7. Vista for me is a most definite No Go.

I always install my games outside of Program files, that way you don't have to turn off UAC.

Thanks for help, turning off UAC helped, I could now install a new dawn without any problems.
But RoM still doesn't work, the same problem as before.

I downloaded 3.19 patch from different source and game works now.
Thanks for help

have sid meier's civ4 complete.
ROM 2.92 one download, complete, (-ie not an earlier version of ROM, patched to 2.92).

I could not get ROM to run even when I followed both 'fixes' stated in the 'CvAltRoor' =py file, opened with notepad. I then tried various places for the CvAltroot file, and finally got ROM to run, but there is no screen interface. The keyboard commands work, some of the function keys bring up menus. But no screen interface, and no mouse over info...

BTW, when I load ROM mod, from BtS (properly patched as per instructions) I get the warlords graphic screen, but ROM actually loads, and the little text window also says “Rise of Mankind.” ROM runs fine, and plays, but no intereface/mouseover info.

I have tried placing the CvAltRoot=py document in various places, (see below) and in various combinations of these places... some combinations don't work, some get me the ROM running fine except there is no interface on the main screen, and no mouse over info.

Paths in civ4 complete as auto installed ion my XP PC.

C:/Documents and Settings/[elana]/My Documents/My Games/beyond the sword/
(( many folders and files, including civ4.ini, and civ4 =config ))
(( /mods folder = empty))
(( /custom assets/python has cvaltroot= py))

C:/Program files/2k games/ firaxis games/ /sid meier's civilization 4 complete/

((

( 8 x folders here)
… /mods = 4x folders: 'tutorial' 'desert war' 'Greek world' and American revolution.' and
… /beyond the sword/mods = 'afterworld ... all standard mods with BtS … 'broken star'
also … /FfH2 (works fine), and Rise of mankind/ CvAltRoot=py … /assets/python/ ...CvAltRoot=py
and .../beyond the sword/assets/python... CvAltRoot=py

(9 x folder shortcuts, mostly to' _viv4xxx' here) and
(10 x Dll xxx here) (5 xpdf = English manual) and
...(readme) (civ4.mcl) ('civ 4 mce' = xml doc) and
...(civ4 on top of capitol/pillar = pitboss) and
...(civ4 on top of capitol/pillar = firaxis games)

and …

( ' _civ4 config' = shortcut) shortcut goes to: “sid meier's civilization 4 complete, civ4.ini”

))

since the standard locations of CvAltRoot=py haven’t worked, and various combos of the above haven’t worked, what do I do now?

Thank you, danke, gracias, toda raba, … elana

## CvAltRoot
##
## Tells Rise of Mankind where to locate its files when it cannot find them normally.
## This is common when using the /AltRoot Civ4 feature or sometimes on
## non-English operating systems and Windows Vista.
##
## HOW TO USE
##
## 1. Change the text in the quotes below to match the full path to the
## "Beyond the Sword" folder that contains the CivilizationIV.ini file.
## Make sure to use forward slashes (/), even for Windows paths.
##
## Windows XP: "C:/Documents and Settings/[UserName]/My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword"
##
## C:/Documents and Settings/elana/My Documents/My Games/sid meier's civilization 4
##
##
## 2. Copy this file to the "Python" folder.
## When Rise of Mankind is installed as a mod, the folder is "Assets/Python".
##
##
## Note!
##
## if above method doesn't help, locate the "Beyond the Sword" installation folder.
## This location is not in the documents folders, instead it's usually in
## "Program Files" ie. "C:/Program Files/Firaxis/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword"
## The folder usually contains "_Civ4config" shortcut (on Windows systems). Once you have
## located this folder, follow the step 2 again. Usually when [username] in above examples
## contains non-english letters you will have to use the installation folder location.

anyone with civ 4 complete figure out how to get ROM and (and then a new dawn) to run? plz...

Try this before you install - definitely before you play. I had the exact same problem as you and this fixed it.

Right click on the main mods folder and give full rights to that folder and all subfolders - for you as a user. I'm not completely sure why this works, but I think it is because even if you run the program as an administrator, when you load a mod the program restarts - this time as the user.

For installation, another thing you can do is install to the desktop (as administrator) and then move the folder to the mods folder. Again, I think the problem is that if the install is a shell that runs another program, the second program can run as you the user, not as the administrator, and you don't have rights to copy all the files over to the mods subdirectory.

Good luck.

Elena, sound like you've installed the mod in the wrong Civ 4 Folder.

It needs to go into the C:\Program files\Firaxis games\...etc.

I use Ubuntu 10.04, I initially did what you've done, didn't work, cut and pasted it to the correct folder \home\user\firaxis games\....I think a C in in there somewhere, but you get idea.

Should be about 10 mods there, and you need to EXTRACT the Rar file there, cut and paste won't work.

Now it should work.

I've got a further problem. Played game for oh 12 hr's straight yesterday, stopped and reloaded once for a meal break, (Weak I know), reloaded fine..yeah...

But now it keeps on having a "Critical Error" on map formation of game loading. Its loaded past that once, but froze on the map reveal.

Q'n's: would this be the Dreaded MAF problem. I can't bring up the error screen as Civ 4 just hogs the screen, Alt tab can see it, but can't bring it to the top.

Python I didn't have to change, :eekdance: , I did a few times and that just froze Python. So Nah not that.

I've been able to start game with this problem before, maybe I got lucky, but now keeps no crashing on that part.

I know it say's 512 Video card, 1gig Recommended, I was playing fine on a huge map, with 128 video card, 4 meg of Ram (more important I think, but video has it place) I know can only access 3.2 Meg, but can't get a 3.2 Meg Memory sim can you!!!!!

Idea's for MAF problems?? will search through forums and post any solution links here as well.

Thanks peeps. Awesome Mod.

Read that posting or text edit CvAltRoot.py file to:

"C:/home/(user name)/My Games/Beyond the Sword"

Save file, copy and paste to assets\Python folder.

Sound will still crash randomly, usually when screen saver is activated.

Awesome mod, I can't leave before 2 am, and start at 9 am!!!!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crazyeye:
