I think I'll make another unit request in the ever expanding library of Roman units ;)

Roman Ballista.

well, here is a VERY good picture to scale the unit by-
ballista.jpg

(yes, in the bottom pic, one of the arms has been cut off)

i would suggest two people, one pulling the rope back then another putting the arrow on, then they both duck

what should the death look like

also how about adding an onager

an onager isnt a ballista is it MD ;)

well we were talkin bout a unit i had a flash of brilliance and.........sry ;)

but will you consider adding one?

btw check that site out, it has the Roman names for some modern cities.

it would be interesting, but I hope the ballista ghet priority- as it would be more useful to the scenario I'm makeing (as it would be in use by both the Romans, and the Dacians)

CivGeneral has a fine ballista on p20 of the unit library; also from from the extras folder of the Play the World are the Medieval Japanese Catapult (sort of a ballista / catapult hybrid) and Seige Crosssbow (definitely a ballista).

but none of them are a western light scorpion ballista are they? no, they are all seige units- this ballista is meant to be the kind that was a direct combatent- and as such could be a unit with both an attack, and a defensive value, not just the avergae bombardment

and they dont have men at the trigger of them ;)

not if they are units taken from a differtn game

better start sucking up to Embryo or someone then

its aaglo, and I dont suck up, he has alredy vested some interest in the idea

he hasnt yet, he has nore units to dom and hasnt confirmed that he will do it- but he has shown interest in the idea ;)

suck up to both, then they both make one and you chose :D

That would fit the actual "siege crossbow" unit quite well, I would think -- one large arrow at a time fired roughly parallel to the ground by one man. It also looks like the "medieval Japanese catapult" (also one "gunner") would be capable of doing some nasty damage to a packed line of troops ... mais, c'est la guerre.

Suckers! :p ;)

I'm thinking about adding this to my to-do list.
Now, this guy pushing and using this ballista: should he look like a Roman? Or just a generic dude?
