Hmmm....
The SS man would have superior armament, but splinters can be pretty nasty. But then leigons would be formed in the classic "dinner time" formation that they used to defeat that stupid squirrel that lived in the tree in Neros Courtyard...

Not even the intercession of Huitzilopochtli himself could save the Aztecs.

i know, but i hoped someone would bring up how the romans could kick aztec ass if the roman empire(west) died out in 476. I have a theory why the new world was less advanced. Humans came from Africa. First went to Europe then asia, THEN America. they were simply in a different time period.

The Native Amerricans werrent as advanced for a # of reasons.
One of the largest ones was lack of horses. Without horses, you have no practical use for the wheel. And the wheel was just one of those gateway technologies that helps a society evolve.
Also, their Civilization formed after all of the Eurasian powers were established, and they were Isolated from scientific powerhouses like Rome and China. If they had been able to learn from the societies in Europe and Aisa, they would have been far more advanced than they were when Columbus, Cortez, And Pizzaro came at them with Muskets and cavalry.

The New World was "less developed"?! What utter rubbish! Have you even heard of cities like Tenochtitlan and Teotihuacan? They had paved streets, massive stone temples, irrigation along with advanced farming methods, and knowledge of astronomy. The Mayans developed a hieroglyphic written language. The Incans had a massive empire. The main reason that Europeans triumphed over the Native Americans was because of their susceptibility to disease and use of superior weaponry.

And you shouldn’t lump Native Americans into one category when you must make generalizations. There are thousands tribes/states/empires, hundreds of languages, and numerous cultures.

but nobody realizes something else. Cortes needed his aztec allies. He did not have enough troops, and even though Spanish weapons could penetrate lines and such, they could not exploit them, they neede the aztecs to do that. So lets expand my scenario. All south american indian nations and mexico, against the Roman Empire circa 10 ad. Now this war could have been closer then we can think, i changed my mind. In the first battle, the romans would obviously win. and a few after that. but BUt, when the spanish came, the aztecs adapted tactics and used spanish weapons. they have shown they could do that. So the same can happen against the romans. They would take weapons, change tactics and battle hard, and win a few battles. Then it is anyones game. But as evidenced in Germania when rome tried to subdue it, a less advanced less united enemy can win or piss u off. The technological advangtage would diminish and they had cohesion(Aztecs). any comments

Assuming that a Roman fleet managed to take the trade winds without compasses and miraculously land an army in Mexico they would not encounter the Aztecs. In 10 AD the only state level societies were the late Olmec, various Mayan states/chiefdoms and the Moche of South America. Native Americans that encountered the Romans would be devastated by disease brought over from the old world. Iron weaponry would remain supreme, but I seriously doubt the Romans could keep regular contact with their colonies without use of advanced sailing techniques developed by Arabs during the middle ages and the compass.

BUt now you're changing the whole scinario. If it's just a straight up Roman Army vs Aztec Army, the Aztec troops would quickly succumb to disese, regardless of the battlefield. Bio-Warfare is a deadly and efficient tool.
