I was just wondering why the heck would you ROP Rape somone ? Is there a tactical advantage to it?

Well, it would let you cross an enemy's border with no resistance and attack their cities with no warning before the AI can react. I have found that the AI will draw in their workers and units into their cities as soon as war is declared.

After damaging your reputation, it messes up trading. However, it is fine if trading means nothing for whatever reason. Say you are near a win anyway and want to speed it up.

True, it does damage your reputation and disrupts trade, but I guess the best use of it would be against a larger opponent when you have limited objectives. For instance, I would use it to attack a larger opponent whom I judged too powerful to survive against in a sustained war - but in this instance, with limited objectives such as capture a border city or two - then I believe that ROP violations work.

But like you mentioned, Overseer714, only if you don't care about the effects it will cause you. ;)

Here is a fun thing to do if you have just started playing Civ 3 (or hell, whenever).

Get an ROP with your biggest foe. Whether it be the most technologically advanced, biggest military, the one with some nice wonders, or just jerkoff whos been bugging you all game, it does not really matter. Then, park about 10 units next to all their cities (less on the borders). Declare war, and watch them go *poof* in one turn.

If you have so many units, that have a chance to take a city, you probably will win an "normal" war either. ;)

Yes there is a massive tactical advantage. Getting your troops next to their key targets and then attacking without warning will give you a huge advantage. It does spoil the pleasure of winning the harder way.

Normally not allowed in SG's, but can be a way to speed up the end of the game you already have won.
