Roxio CD Burning Problem...

I have a problem that is bugging me. I've been trying to make a Jimi Hendrix Live CD, but alot of songs won't go onto the CD. They are usual mp3s. For example, when I try to add certain songs like Hendrix and McCartney doing "Day Tripper" or Hendrix and BB King doing "Like a Rolling Stone", a box pops up saying "Adding song to CD..." and then it takes a while. Eventually Roxio freezes.

What's going on? Why do certain songs freeze the program? And why are they the best songs?

EDIT: New discovery. After a while it will sometimes display a new popup, saying "This is not a valid audio file." Which is weird, because it plays in Kazaa, Windows Media, WinAmp...

Most likely the songs you have that are causing the problems are invalid because they don't have a set bitrate. There are always songs that are found which have a listed bitrate of 128kbps for example, and then when you play the song it alternates from 128 to 135 to 116 and so on. These sorts of songs are corrupted and wont burn. You'll have to sort out the corrupt files and find a version that doesn't do this, or you'll have to convert the file using a music editing program such as Sound Forge.

Also, if you love Hendirx, McCartney, BB King, or whomever, go buy one of the hundreds of CDs available

Sounds pretty bad. So is there anything I can really do? How can I find out which files are corrupt, or how can I convert them? Is Sound Forge free?

I knew someone would say this. With my budget, and the rarity of these songs, that's not happening.

And why assume that just because you are burning an MP3 to CD that it is stolen? I have taken my CDs, ripped MP3s from them, and then put the MP3s onto a compilation CD.

That is what my wife wants to do with some of her CD's. She has several hundred from various artists and musical styles.

Well I can tell because he has the files with different bitrates Hehe, no harm of course

About Sound Forge.. It's not free unfortunately. It's a music editor made by Sonic Foundry ( http://www.sonicfoundry.com/ ).

But I don't think you'll need that. You can get any sound editor and use them to convert the files. I like MPEG Suite by Electronic Cosmo. It's freeware and you can find it here: http://download.com.com/3000-2140-10103845.html?tag=lst-0-1

This program lets you convert MP3 files to .WAV files, or MP3 to MP3, or WAV to MP3, and son on. When you install it and run it, the program looks complicated to run, but it's fairly simple if you get the hang of it. (Just read the help to learn how to use it).

Here's how the burning process works: It takes your MP3 files and converts them to .wav files and then saves them on the CD to be played. So you have two options.
1. Conver the MP3 files to another bitrate so that it has a single bitrate and isn't corrupt.
2. Convert all your files to wav files using this program, and then burn them to the CD - thus almost guaranteeing the burn will be successful (unless other problems unrelated occur.)

Keep in mind: If your song files are corrupt, then some editors wont be able to work with them at times. Just be wary of that.

I don't know if that will help my problem, unfortunately. I once had a bunch of .wav files and none of them would burn. I don't think .wav and Roxio get along. Plus I think my Walkman only plays mp3s and reglar CDs.

When a CD is burned, the files are converted from MP3 to .wav by the burning program. Unless you have a special MP3 CD player, the only files that work are wav files.

Anyhow, that's just another reason I bought myself an MP3 CD player for my car. Less of a hassle.

Weird. I distinctly remember that I tried to burn .wav files, and they wouldn't work. Maybe they weren't .wav though, I'll have to try to remember.

Anyway, I'll try that free program you showed me, lets hope it works out OK.
