RR9 - A man's castle it's his home

Duh, build bronze cannons! :D

Is there an island available with iron? That's worth settling then. I don't see the urge for eliminating Izzy that quickly, don't think we're really in the position either. Less without iron. :p

Yes, there is a island south of our continent with iron.... just look at the last set pics, way south.

The funny thing is that you need iron for every cannon you can build in game ( both land and naval ones ) ... except if you are building a pirate ship. Then magically you learn how to make bronze cannons :D

Similarly, you can't build cannons without Iron, but you can build muskets and rifles without Iron. I know it's for balance reasons, but come on.

Ok, it took a while, but here is my set :p

I tok a really good look at the save and started to make my math... and , given that Izzy got Monarchy not long ago, feudalism should not take long. That alone + the fact she adquired iron, make unlikely that we can deploy against her as soon as that. I also considered the possibility of going Lit for TGL, but it is already late for that IMHO, even with marble ( 6 turns to tech to lit + build time ). So i decided to simply go monarchy ( for the wines ) + CS for my set and make some build up. I also decided to try for MoM ... we have marble so we have a decent chance to get it.

Amyway , it looks like Izzy was indeed gunning for Feudalism:

Bah... was expecting it, but not so soon.

More builderish turns until I spotted one of my favourite issues on the game:
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0446.jpg

No lone galley with settler to grab iron, i guess .

And Izzy continues to let us down:
Spoiler :
civ4screenshot0447.jpg

We can't trust a AI to do a human's job, it seems ...

Anyway i ended my set with the end of CS teching ( queued Construction, open to sugestions ). Obligatory screens:

Could be worse ... and the wonders are not falling as flies , a good sign.

Anyway, i think that we will need to continue our builderish ways for quite a while. Izzy is quite bifg ,and we will need to have some serious upper hand to get her down. For that we need time :(

BTW Thy is up, with nocho on deck if this is only avaliable after the 29th ;)

Well, there's no rush given nocho's delay. :p

Became a bit later, but rather late than never..

As rolo mentioned I would make no sense to prepare for Izzy right now it seems to become a quite calm builders set..
Techwise I'd head straight towards gunpowder and engeneering, 'cause this should be enough to take izzy down in case we'll reach it fast enough. And for our variant I'd go for maschinery next to open engeneeruing and therefore castles!
Besides I think we could build a few more workers and some more military just to be safe from Izzy (not sure but I think she'd declare at pleased..).
The only think that remains for discussion (at least I think there's not taht much else to discuss about) is where to settle next and whether to settle the iron-island or not. In case there'll be no input from the team I'd prefere the hill east of Istanbul to grap cow and fish and work some cottages for Istanbul.
In case there's anything I forgot please let me know!

I think we should settle the Iron city. Trebs and Janissaries might be viable, but it would be nicer if we had the capacity to make Cannons.

Hmm.. not sure about that! Trebs and Janissaries should be enough to take the iron from Izzy and as there's still some way to go 'till steel I think it's not worth settling a city that far away and without any possibilities for reinforcements..

That's true.

@Rolo: No war before Gunpowder. I'm not against a Jan + Treb war, I just think it would be easier if we had cannons, but it's not necessary.

Just follow with the course, thy , as you stated above.

For sure I will, but as I don't want to screw up the settling I'd like to get some more votes for east of Istanbul to grab fish and cow or the iron island to the south (as long as it's still available)!

Short report for an uneventful set:

IT:
Some minor MM.. A few whips and assigning specialists..

860:
We born a GS in Bursa. For the moment I left him over there as we didn't discuss what to do with him. And I sold CoL to Izzy as she only needed an additional turn:

880:

900:

940:
MC finished and Machinery (this thime without the 's' :p) next. Another city got settled as well:

And or all those wo bemoan the possible loss o Iron-Island:

1000:
On he last turn we got bit lucky:

So things left to discuss:
  1. what shall we do with the GS
  2. Izzy became friendly so there might be the opportunity to trade away CS for something needful

Just pointing out that Rolo did say what we should do with the GS... the, uh, showcasing of interesting use of English is a secondary, but not unwanted, effect.

By the way, I don't mind waiting for Nocho or having him play after me, both are fine.
