Do you use them?

In my game as egypt was my first time I tried using assassins in large numbers. I was surprised how effective they became after few succesful kills. My game has lasted pretty long, mostly because I want to enjoy it, so I'm not in a hurry to finish it too quickly. My assassins have killed over 50 enemy family members on the field and in the cities. I've also managed to cause few revolts by sabotaging happiness buildings. The nicest trick was to bankcrupt pontus with constant sabotage of expensive buildings. Is it worth it to have an army of assassins around?

Does killing off majority of the enemy family have any noticeable effect on their economy and ability to wage a successful war?

I love them. In a recent game I was reluctant to invade Germany (held, of course, by the Britons) so I waged a war using spies and assassins. I started them out on army captains to get their subterfuge up, then moved on to wiping out family members. I definitely weakened their numbers.

Now, it was probably more to the fact that I had conquered their main powerbase previously, but I have no doubt that launching such an assassination war contributed to the fact that the Britons were never able to attack me for the rest of the game, allowing me to focus my attention elsewhere.

I use them a lot. It's more useful in BI where sabotaging a religious building would cause a settlement to riot and possibly rebel.

I wish the game would keep a log of the assassinations. Who killed whom, when and where.

But then you could trace the crime...

I don't use Assasins ever, I can never get them to work, so I use that money elsewhere. I abuse the hell out of spies, though, having used them first to such great effect in my Bactrian game.
