Running SMAC windowed

OK, I finally got the game running, and I was wondering if there was some sort of way that I could run it in a window, so I could play it while I'm doing other things on my desktop. Any one know how to run a full-screen program in a window? Any help would be appreciated.

I think Ctrl-Esc or alt-tab could bring you back to another running program. However, SMAC uses its own resolution settings, which will be the new ones until you close the game.
Anyway, how can you do anything else when you play such a great game?

you could try this, start 2 instances of SMAC, starting the 2nd once the main screen is reached and close one after they are both fully loaded in, the remaining SMAC runs in a corner at your normal resolution allowing access to the desktop

this works on XP Pro with the appropriate patch and ini adjustment
