Runtime Error?

Every time i try loading my saved game it tells me that there was some kind of C++ runtime error and "this application is trying to terminate runtime in an unusual fashion", i have no idea what that even means. all i did was clear the mod database folder in the cache and this started happening. the mods work now, but the saved game wont?! FIRAXIS, YOU REALLY NEED TO FIX THIS GAME, IF ITS NOT ONE THING ITS SOMETHING ELSE. IF YOU WANT ME TO KEEP PAYING MONEY THAN FIX THIS GAME SO ITS WORTH IT TO ME. IM ONE OF THE SUCKERS THAT WILL PAY MONEY FOR STUFF BUT NOT IF THIS KIND OF THING KEEPS HAPPENING. FIX THIS GAME ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

The same thing happened to me twice in the last two days, after never having happened before.

Same here.
I just ran a validation of the game files through the steam app. It's telling me that 2 files failed to validate and it's going to reaquire them.

Hope this is the problem.

What I have done in the meantime is go to the turn before it hangs, save to Steam, exit to Main Menu, then re-open the Steam save. I've then been able to play past the "runtime error."

My problem seems to be with my mod, although I can't figure out why it wouldn't load up after a save.

I can start the game fine, play for as long as I wish, but if I save and then load the saved game I get the runtime error.

It does it at turn 0 even.

Edit: Problem solved. Bit of xml was causing the problem.

it was just that one game for me... i can load any other save games just not the one i was playing before.

hi lads,i found a fix for this single player saved games load error,(in my case it was a runtime error of some sort)start steam in offline mode and your games will load up...gl hf

Thanks, I shall try but I am a complete pessimist now. As I have said before a lot of the technical Jargon is above my head I am a Historian not a IT specialist. I enjoy the Civ series not as a pastime but also as a teaching tool. he Frustration with Civ 5 is acute
I bought a new computer specifically designed for enhanced game playing
Paid 100 buck US for the game
dealt with the nightmare of the steam installation
Continue to deal with Steam 19min. to download a game
waited for the "fix" and now what do I have
Cannot choose a tech since the tech tree no longer appears (in mods)
even when playing the "vanilla game" crashes at turn 196
30 min for steam to load the damn thing
I and I hope many of the consumers of this game are STEAMING at the fraud perpetrated on the public . You sold us a product which doesn’t work and that one can't return!!
Frixas enough with the" glitz fixes" and address grunt issues FIX THE Damn THING!!!

How was it bad? I'm curious to know for future ref if I ever have to deal with it being a problem (HL2, HL2 Episode 1 and the Orange Box all installed flawlessly for me back in 2006 and 2007, but yeah they need to improve it since a lot of people have issues with it).

Wait, it took only 19 minutes to download the game? Or do you mean just the patches?
Because if its the whole game in 19 minutes, you have awesome internet...

Well it does actually work for the majority of people, but yeah more patching is needed and they are working on that at least (though not having as many bugs upon release would have been appreciated). You might also want to report your bug to Firaxis on their tech support forum so they look at it faster (they do check here but not as much).

One question, as I've seen a couple of other people do this, what is with your sentences breaking off to a new line mid-sentance?

Maybe they are on an IPhone. Or use them a lot?
