Hello everybody!
I'm a newbie, from mexico, i've played just for like two weeks, i've played with all the civs, in PTW, to assure that i won't get stucked with only the same old boring strats that could only work with two civs. I guess my skills will improve with the time, but i'm not thaaaaat patient(pacient, or however its written) so i would appreciate some practical and basic tips to play with this civ, because i love russia(everything about culture, languege, etc.) so i won't quit playing wih this civ. I'm not asking for a huge, deep article, just some basic advices to improve my skills with this civ. That's all. Thanks in advance!

There are a lot of articles in the War Academy and some on each civ. Most are for Conquest, but much of it applies to PTW.

Russia is much better in Conquests because the UU has blitz. I rarely play them, even so. They are considered mid tier, with 1 good trait, 1 weak trait. A good tactic for Russia is build about 4 scouts very early and canvass the map for goody huts and contacts. BTW, your english is fine, and welcome to Civfanatics[party]:band:

with russia, you start with pottery, so you can build a granary right off, you get scouts and you get cheap lib/unis.

Get a granary in a good city with a food bonus early, so you can spam out settlers.

make lots of scouts and pop huts - make sure you are not building a settler anywhere when you pop a hut. the best thing about an expansionist civ is the better chances of getting settlers.
You get cheap libs, so build them

I don't play as russia, but I'd first do as overseer suggests and build scouts. I would NOT play on an archipelago map, and instead play a continents or a pangea map with at least sedentary barbarians around. I'd also do as AutomatedTeller suggests. I might build the Great Library and turn research off until Education comes and stock up on gold. I'd build lots of horseman and then lots of knights. I wouldn't start any wars until the middle ages and focus on expansion until I had knights... maybe wait until later... I'd just build lots of knights and horseman before that and perhaps sign some Rights of Passage if I felt I might get attacked. Anyway... whether I had the Great Libary or not I'd beeline for Military Tradition pretty much as soon as I could and upgraded my knights/horseman to cossacks and then go out and crush everyone ASAP. And then build the Military Academy ASAP and lots of armies.

Hi, again!
ok, thanks everybody for those advices, really helpful!, i haven't noticed how much a granary can make the growth of a city faster, i turned my cities into settler factories, simply by building some of those, and also the scout strat is great, thanks for the advices.

I've been playing around for maybe a year and I still hang around the War Academy. There's lots to learn there.

Plus, you spelled "Patient" right the first time.
