I made a new civilization mod. It works fine on my machine now. I also installed that same mod on my wife's machine, and it too works fine on hers.
But her mod resides in her My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS folder on her C: drive. I never install to where the game tells me and so not only is my mod residing in My Documents\My Games\Civilization 4\MODS (note I took Sid's name out) but my My Documents folder doesn't even reside on my C: drive, I have it on my E: drive.
So I made a succession game tonight to play with her back and forth using the new mod. I played from 4000 BC to 3000 BC and shipped it over to her. When she goes to load the game, it tells her that the mod MODS/E:\My Documents\My Games\Civilization 4\MODS blah blah blah is not a proper mod file and is being ignored.
Now my question is how come it knows where my mod resides? Why does the save game care? Shouldn't it just use my modded files when it's on my machine, and use her modded files when it's on her machine?
The real offshoot of this is just because two people have the same mod installed doesn't mean they'll be able to play together if either one of them has the game files installed in a different location from the other. Can this be the way it works?! This seems like a HORRIBLE way to program it.
