Version: RAR 1.04 beta
Mapsize: standard, random continents
Civ: Something SCI, tbd. Tibet or Korea probably
Difficulty: TBD. Emperor is too easy if everyone is familiar with RAR, DG or Deity might be too hard if everyone is new to RAR.
Barbs: probably random
Victory: all enabled, we must win by space

Additional: There is only 1 way for us to get optional techs: We must research every last beaker of them ourselves, in 1 turn only. Can't trade for them, can't get them as free techs via philo, oracle, etc, can't self research if it takes longer than 1 turn.

Additional additionals: We may not set foot on an inhabited continent other than our own until somewhere in the modern age. This is partly to discourage early domination/conquest, partly to get to play with eurocopters & strategic bombers

Signup requirements: Have RAR installed. Not that worried about ability/familiarity with RAR. If the roster turns out to be people new to RAR, we'll run it on emperor as a sort of trainingish game. It will be going almost all the way through the tech tree, so it's a chance to get accustomed to IA/modern techs. Whatever level it's at, the one thing I really don't want to see in a turnlog is "too confusing, don't know what to do next, basically just hit enter a few times." No problems if it's too confusing/don't know what to do next, but think about it, and decide on some definite short term goals based on your thoughts. Even if the decision/logic is totally different to someone else's, it's much better to do things on your turns for a reason.

Roster:

Sanabas
Own
Beorn (fairly sure)

Yay! I love modern RaR. Especially those gassy robotic dudes. What are they called... Count me in as a trainee. I suck at RaR.

As a matter of fact, I'm starting my own RaR game. Will be a good break from my 20 minute turn exhausting sid game.

Emperor?!?! I was thinking more like regent, but that's fine. I think we should have trainers and trainees. Maybe we could get DocTsiolkovski as a trainer :mischeif: ? But I think you would make a fine one.

Wait, is 1.04 Beta the latest version? If not, where can I upgrade to that?

Dunno what sort of one I'll make. I don't always find it that easy to explain my thinking on Civ, or I forget to mention things that I thought were obvious, etc. Plus my ability to have brainfarts is pretty good too. Teaching maths is so much easier. If you can beat monarch/emperor on C3C, you should be ok with emperor on RAR. If you can beat regent on C3C, you can beat monarch, therefore emperor RAR is fine. How's that for logic?

Let's make this an actual training game then. Level will be emperor. Training manuals will probably be procured from the Idiot Academy. I'm off to read some actual training games to get a rough idea how they're run by non-idiots.

Lack of experience hurts, but I think emperor RaR is easier than emperor C3C. The more involved tech tree, AIs difficulty with prioritising, AIs failure to sell off obsolete buildings slow down the AI more in RAR than in C3C. On the higher levels, the production & research discount make up for it, and I find RaR deity/sid slightly tougher than C3C deity/sid, at least through the AA/MA. Once you've overcome those bonuses, AI stupidity kicks in more, and modern ages are easier in RAR than an equivalent C3C game, whatever the level.

1.04 beta is the latest, if you've lurked/played any RAR SGs in the last couple of months you've probably got it already. If not, the link and instructions: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=101124&page=4&pp=20

 Zorn. This reminds me that my hand-knit Volcano-shaped Dunce hat has not had a taker yet ;)

I must report that Own is very able to follow us into a DG RaR game, especially if we don't have too many AGR early opponents. AGR is even better in RaR for AI's so far as I noticed.
However, it might be long and hard to understand each other, since we are just married, and you know what happens after marriage :mischief:

Oh, and I just finished a 4CC SS on Emp, to test off, and it gets easier as you go up the tree.

Bright side is 20 additionnal free units. OTOH, 50% rate cap, 3 gold unit support, High WW, Xenophobic, rampant corruption and 0-1-1 unit support make up for it.

edit: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=109398 <- That spreadsheet is awesome for any kind of info on RaR

No, it was some bonus not mentioned in the civilopedia. I looked in the editor and couldn't find it.

Veteran diplomats maybe (though I can't tell what would that do)?

Uh-oh, and I downloaded DocT's extra text thing. What's the problem? Could this game be played on 1.02 extended edited with the changes we can make with just the editor?

You must do all of the "inconveniences", and IIRC this was one of them.

You can fix it: just do it over again :p Seriously though, if you can't find the missing file manually after a try or two, it's often better to whip the zip anew.

It's not that complicated, it's just some long and tricky thing that reminds me of DOS manual stuff, you have to do a lot of copy/paste by hand, file by file almost. But you'll love it when you get around to it, and the instructions are clear enough.

Give it a try as it is, but if all else fails, I'd start over and follow all directions carefully. It might take a good half hour, but it's worth it.
