Sana04 - RAR Spaceship, trainingish game

You will revolt 3 times as Korea, once to Monarchy, once to Demo, then once to either Social Demo or Fed republic.
Religous is not that important. In 1.04, Strategic cheat codes are no longer very good. I much more highly recommend Battleships with Aegis cruisers coupled with Humvees. This will allow you to ravage an Ai in 2-3 turns.

There are many govts, but we don't need to use several of them. Democracy can last a lifetime, just like C3C republic. Korea would be my pick after Tibet.

I could be availible for a turnset every now and again, but not in a normal roster basis. Any insight I give is following my standard plan.
Step 1: Oppress your pet AI's (Anyone on your continent)
Step 2: Own your continent
Step 3: Setup the Science
Step 4: Setup the Gold
Step 5: Prepare an invasion force
Step 6: Hear the lamentations of their women.

Sometimes I skip right over step 1 and proceed directly to step 2.

Uh-oh, and I downloaded DocT's extra text thing. What's the problem? Could this game be played on 1.02 extended edited with the changes we can make with just the editor?

That error is a very familiar one. It is simply caused by the wrong pediaicons.txt file. You need to manually switch them for 1.02/3 and 1.04 games, if you load a 1.02 game with the 1.04 pediaicons (or the other way round?), that's the error message you get. The way I fixed it was to label one as pediaicons103, one as pediaicons104, and copy the relevant one and rename pediaicons.txt before loading civ. Once we finished Bez1 and another game, I've used nothing but 1.04, so the problem no longer exists for me.

*edit* just looked, the thread with 1.04 in it describes this problem exactly. I didn't bother with inconvenience number 3, and I didn't bother with the new pediaicons posted later in the thread. Just did inconvenience 1 & 2, and manually swapped the pediaicons until my 1.03 games finished.

Theocracy is good for sacrificing for culture. I've been meaning to try it out, I think I'll pinch LK's idea for 25k of sacrifices. Using the blood cult, temple virgins, etc this time.

roster:

Sanabas
Own
Beorn
Zorn
Disenfranchised
Romeo as guest smiter/war advisor (Advice possibly restricted to "Of course we can go to war now" :) )

Civ: votes please, korea, tibet, or some other SCI civ? No reason to be REL, as romeo said, we're only likely to have 3, maybe 4 anarchies. chiefdom-monarchy-democracy-federal republic/soc dem
Volunteers to lead off?
Or a better idea: Decide the civ, I'll post a start, everyone plays 50 turns with detailed what we did and why, and then we'll pick one to continue from.

*edit* actually, with our only way to get demo & fed rep by 1-turn research, demo won't happen until mid MA, and fed rep will likely be skipped entirely. So we'll go chief-mon-dem-soc dem almost certainly

I`m for greeks. I just like navies. Of course, allmost every useful naval tech is optional, but still...
And at least we get harbours with our starting tech..

AFAIK you MUST do inconvenience 1 and 2, or the game will crash when it looks for those units and finds empty folders. Don't think it should be a problem not having 1.03, as from memory that was just a changed .bic to fix worker speeds, everything in 1.03 is in 1.04 as well.

In the absence of more than 1 vote for which civ, I'll randomly decide between a couple of them (greece, korea, tibet, maybe another) and post a start tonight.

Random choice was out of greece, tibet & korea, dice roll said Korea.

Here's the start:

sana04start.jpg

And the save

Opponents are 6 randoms + mali, barbarians are off. World is 70% continents, age, etc are random.

Since we're doing this for training too, can everybody please play the first 50 turns within the next 48-72 hours and post a detailed log of what you did with city placement (including the capital), builds, research, etc and why? Then we'll pick one of the starts and go on from there.

Nice idea on everyone playing 50. I might lag a bit on the start though, but not beyond 72.

T1

I decided to move before setteling. Settling on a hill gives a extra shield in the city-tile, plus a defense bonus. So I move the tribe 2 SW, where it is on a hill, next to the river and still gets the cow.
Research is on math, wich is allways good to trade.

T2

Found Seoul, start a scout. worker starts roading.

T6

Scout -> scout

T11

second cout finnished ( I buildt two, because Seoul did grow slow before it`s borders expanded to the cow, and coulnd´t build a clan so soon.) Tribal guard next.

T14

Growth, lux to 10%

T15

Tribal guard finnishes, start clan. Set lux to 0% (Well - I noted down that I did it, but forgot it...realized it a few turns later. These are the things that prevent me from ever being able to defeat demigod or higher. Sigh.) Seoul would still finnish the clan faster than it would grow, so I build another tribal guard first.

T21

Second tg finnished, and I finally realize that I forgot to drop lux to 0 and do it. Start clan.

T24

Math completed. My first instinct is to go for mansonry, but from what my two scouts have discovered we might be on some sort of island. So I go for boat building.

T26

Turns out we`re on a peninsula, and rome has bloced the only conection to the rest of the world with two tribal guards. So no contacts exept rome for us. Trading isn`t possible, because rome lacks alphabet, and thus cannot be tought mathematics. And they would only offer 11 gold for alpha - no thanks.

T29

Clan completes.
I realize that our two tgs could also block the entrance to our peninsula from our side, so that they would be the only miltary we need for quite a long time.
So I send them forth.
Seoul builds another clan.

T30

Boat buildding -> sailing

T32

Pjonyang is founded on the hill next to the cereals. Strangely it counts as being next to a river (I checked for the trade bonus) so this should be a quite nice location.
I was wondering wether it should start on clans at once or if it would be better to grow a little before starting to pump srettlers. A clan would take 11 turns if it starts on size 1. It will probably faster if the city is larger, so I start a granary first.

T36

Sainling finally finnished. Warfare next. I can do some deal withrome. Alphabet and sailing for ritualism and 20 gold.
However, I did not give them mathematics. If I did, they could trade it around as a monopoly, and we`d gain very little. I`d rather rty to get some more contacts first.

T41

Warfare -> mansonry

T43

Seoul: Clan -> granary (I noticed that Seoul produces clan faster than it grows. A granary should fix that.)

T48

Found Wonsan on the coast. Start a kublai transport. The first scout has returned home and disbands in Pjongyang, speeding granary up one turn.

T49

Mansonry -> cultivation

Summary:

We have only three cities yet, but two of them are potential clanfactories.
We can also start searching for contacts beyond the roman blockade soon.

I am not sure if I can play the first 50. Will have to wait and see. Wed would be the target date.

My turnlog (not perfect I missed a couple of build orders here and there... )

T1 If I learned anything from Sana03 its that food is important, very important in RaR..Cow is nice, want that one for sure. So options Settle on the spot/1SE/2SE, moving SE will add more plains as far as my fog gazing goes..... Settle on the spot! This will give 3 BGs as well.
Build scout, Worker s. Start research on Cultivation, good chance for some sugar or Spices around.

T2 Road

T5 Scout> Scout

T10 Scout> Scout

T15 Scout> (No barbs so ...) Clan

T19 Cultivation (no lux near enough!)> Masonry

T25 Meet rome, Clan> Granary

T29 Found P'yongyang> Granary

Masonry> Scrape Mining

T38 Scrape mining> Urbanization

T47 Trade Alpha for Boat Building+12g
Urbination> Math

Thats about it. Both Seoul and P'yongyang have granaries, the Clan will settle on the hill. After the respective worker and Clan both can build "Worker housing" and/or a Forge. That second clan should go (I think) on the same hill as Zorn's Wanson to build a boat.

Rome has Sailing (or what comes after Boat building, we might trade Match for it in a few turns)
