Savage barbarians

Ok as the title says those barbs can be savage, but can they own you. For me i found out today that they can . Now this was bts latest patch at noble on marathon mode(sry lack of pics) and at 3000bc as william van orange of the dutch, and I get that lovely randomn event where a hoard of barbarians come out to pillage the world. Well I thought nothing of it, then came the news that arabia got killed off(wow and i thought i was lucky when one rival got killed off for free that early) then i noticed a stack of barb archers coming at my country . I didn't even have bw yet or archury and it was too late to change to archery and i had only 1 warior exploring(was on coast so i built work boats for some crabs) even more one of the archers had a premotion meaning they sacked arabia . I ended up losing at 3000 bc after they took out one warior I managed to build b4 they came. So anyone else have this happen to them and is it even possable to counter this b4 even bw or archery can be researched. Once again sry for lack of pics and save game(didn't make any in disgust).

This random event is known and there is some discussion about it beeing a bug (it can strike before barbs are actually allowed). If it strikes early and close, there is nothing that you can do about it.

And i thought i was doing something wrong to have been owned so easily by barbs. This should really be put when barbs are allowed like in civ 3 when an uprising happened.

I think too it schould be fixed to appear later. However it does not strike too often and when that happens you are just 15 minutes in the game...

True, and there is also the number one rule with civ, save at every single turn of the game because this can happen.

The barb uprising is a random event, and it's destroyed me a couple of times (Once on Monarch, once at Emperor). Can't do much about it, really....Refar is right....The event doesn't happen often and even if you get creamed your game is still young and you don't lose much by starting a new game.
On a related note - You can play this game however you want, but I hope you don't get too discouraged and at least keep the barbarian settings at least at 'Normal'. (ie. Don't totally turn the barbarians off in your game settings.) Why? Your units can still get a maximum of 10 experience points fighting barbs and....if that happens you'll be able to build the Heroic Epic national wonder since you have a level 4 unit. (H. Epic is VERY nice to have, especially if you're a peaceful player or your cities are lacking in good production.)

Wasn't bashing barbs, i like having em just for what you said, just wanted to know if there was any counter to the randomn event, seeing as there isn't then there is just hoping it don't come towrds me.
