I got this game in November, never played any of the other Civ's, so if this is old news to you, keep in mind, I'm just a newbie.
Anyway...
When I see I'm coming up on a technology that permits me to build a Wonder of the World, (Depending on how far off it is), I get one of my cities building a Palace. Being as this--well, after the update, anyways--costs 1,000 shields, you can stock quite a few iup in that city's production box. Then, after I build the technology, I change the production of that city to whatever wonder I recently became able to build.
I really irked Russia with this--they'd started Shakespeare's Theater, I hadn't even started Printing Press yet. By the time I got Free Artistry, I had so many shields in the box, I wasted 54 of 'em switching over...
Oh--and not for nothing, but don't FORGET about the thing! You'll end up having your capital moved...
