Here at Civfanatics and at 'Poly, when I try to save linked, attached, or uploaded pictures in posts, it only allows me to save them as bitmaps, and those bitmaps have the default filename "untitled" Anyone know what is happening and how I can fix it? I am running IE6.0 on Windows XP Home Edition. Thanks!

Instead of clicking "save as" for the image, just right click the image (without highlighting it) and click "copy." Open your favorite picture editory and just paste the picture into that.

For the pictures I can save as something other than a BMP the copy paste trick works. Otherwise, with the problem pictures it doesn't work :(

Try saving it as a JPG in Paint. That might work.

I'm trying to save them from IE, not in paint.

In paint, I don't have problems saving files: it's getting them from the *#^^# 'net that is pissing me off  :D

I have the exact same problem!!!
The weird thing is that I used to be able to save them as jpg just fine, but one day I tried to save something and I could only do it as bmp. I've tried everything, but nothing works.

I'm running XPPro, IE 6.0.2800.blahblahblah, and when I right click and select "Save Picture As...", I get a JPG option. Hmmm. . . must be a XPHome thing.

It's a hassle, I know, but you might have to save it as a bitmap and convert it to JPG via paint. It sucks, but it works.

Hehe you get .Jpg and .Bmp, I get .Gif and .Bmp and he only gets .Bmp. Weird ways of microsoft...

It's a big fat bug with IE, clearing your internet cache is supposed to fix it but I can't vouch for that 'cause I've never had the problem myself.

internet cache? do you mean clearing the cookies and temporary internet files?

ok I emptied my cookies and temporary internet files and now the problem is fixed. Cool. Why does it do that though?

Speaking of picture editors, is there a good download you would recomend? I have an old Adobe program from two computers ago. Its OK, but it wont interface with the cheap digital camera I have. Also the cleanup tools are clumsy.
