yes to future... no to future techs. Give them proper names, give them units and buildings, give them effects.
maybe even add the universe.
example the near future would allow us to colonise the moon and possibly terraform mars whilst searching forr ET. How we would portray the extra maps I don't know. The far future would become accessable once Hyperspace/Warp/FTL (call it what you will) technology has been introduced. This could liven up the race to Alpha Centauri as a FTL cruiser built many years AFTER a standard rocket ship could possibly reach AC BEFORE said rocket ship.
Obviously the known galaxy would be a good starting point and if anyone has the maps from either Frontier Elite II or Frontier First Encounters, You hve an ideal model universe to try and conquer.
Obviously this is really expandinhg the scope of the game and would be more difficult to impliment as we would need to get to grips with 3 dimensional movement...
Unless we don't actually see the space between the planets and just "goto" ships. Once there, colonisation begins again... but we have advanced aliens to deal with, unique technologies that can only be researched by contact with alien culture, just think... you are on the way to alpha centauri, you are just assimilating the last eartly colony that stands between you and 100% domination and all of a sudden an alien tribe springs up.
