sometimes i get a box top left which says say to all- say what to all?

It's for talking to other Human players in Multiplayer.
No idea why it is coming up for you, maybe you pressed its Shortcut key.

but i get it when i'm in single player i dare not try multi player

The keyboard shortcut for "chat to all" is Shift+Tab. So someone (or something) is pressing Shift+Tab. Possible reasons include:

1. You have an additional game controller (or some other input peripheral) connected to your PC which sends a signal that gets interpreted as a Shift+Tab signal

2. You use a wireless keyboard with a bad connection, so sometimes the PC receives different keystrokes than the keyboard sent.

3. You run a mod that calls the "chat to all" dialogue (for whatever reason)

4. You frequently hit the wrong keys on your keyboard

You're probably hitting the tilde key, it's the one to the left of the 1 (one) key on the key board. It's a shortcut to chat in MP
