Unrestricted Leaders - synergies? (2023 edition)

Yeah I think many of us have done something similar if we have played the game for a bit (I did it with ArcherPult in one of the NC games here). But in that situation happiness isn't going help the breakout, more catapults is. And Holkans make it overkill already (4 power + immunity to first strikes with siege backup? Whoa mama).

Oh, I missed the CRE part. I mean at that point, yeah, might as well get a 40H +3 happiness, heh.

Very belated thought on this: I'm currently trying out Hannibal of Native America, to see if it will make me the medieval crossbow powerhouse as it theoretically might.

Update: It was a lot of fun for a while; then the civ with which I was at war at the time (England under Napoleon, of all things), discovered Feudalism, and it became less fun.

Too bad you can't combine Cho-Ko-Nu with the Totem Pole + Protective. I bet those would be pretty viable against longbows. Be a fun way to try to make a few things that aren't very good (crossbows / totem pole / protective) into something that might be decent.

If you into nonsense like that you could try Celtic Guerilla3 longbows with Protective.

I just had a pretty nice game as Pacal of Netherlands on an Archipelago map. It's not so much any specific synergy between traits and UU/UB, more like the combination of the IMO best trait combo for watery maps and the IMO best UU and UB for watery maps. I was amazed by how quickly I could do research early in the game.
