Scenario Design using Civ3 vs. Civ2

I've noticed that the already low noumber of posts in this forum have dropped even lower since Civ3:Conquests came out. I just bougt C3C (yes, I finally caved) to see what all the fuss was about. The scenario I focused on was 'WW2 Pacific.' The thing is, Civ3 does have a advantage in that particular type of scenario because the AI knows how to use Carriers. Nevertheless, the scenario could definitely do with some events.

And example of this would be the 'Shogun' scenario: using Civ2, you could have the Portuguese appear at the time they did historically and perhaps randmize the locations a bit to ensure that no particular clan makes contact first every time you play the scenario.
In the Civ3 scenario, there are no Portuguese (that I know of). Contact is implied by the discovery of certain tech.

Why is it that given the enourmous amount of Civ2 scenarios out there (and many which are still being created/editied), so few people are still into this stuff.

I've thought of literally hundreds of applications for Civ2's macro of the years --I'm just too lazy to turn them into fully complete scenarios! Civ2 has a MAJOR advantage over Civ3 in this area. Perhaps Civ2 scenarios designers need a better propaganda machine, I don't know.

To prove that a WW2:Europe using Civ2 is better than the equivilant using Civ3 I think I'll finally create a fully-playable Civ2 scenario on that theme. In fact, I think I'll create one for Civ3 as well! (Yikes, what am I getting myself into here!) Ahem, it may take some time though...:D

[With a few improvements here and there I still say CIv2 could be just as good as Civ3 in almost every respect --here's to releasing the Civ2 source code!]

Indeed. If the code was released, we would all have a perfect game! :goodjob:
