I was thinking as a scenario (or god forbid DLC) why don't they have you play through a civilization's real life history?

Say if you were the Chinese Civilization, you would have to deal with unifying the empire, then the different emperor's tempers, then the Mongolians, the war with Japan, and etc etc.

I bring this up since back when I was younger I used to justify my mom getting me these games saying that it was a history lesson. I think considering the realism the game could offer that this could be a way to substantiate DLC or even future expansion packs.

Probably doesn't have the replayabillity of regular Civ, but could be interesting all of the same. A modified version of Rise and Fall of Civilization, perhaps?

So empire unification might be a quest to complete by a particular date, and Mongolia, Japan and Korea would declare war in certain years, the treasure fleet would be a quest, etc.?

The problem might be that civ wars usually last longer than historical wars.

Somewhat like Age of Empires II campaign?

This can easily be adjusted by going by a single year or months. Or they can up the intensity of the fight to meet Civ's traditional turn system.

I couldn't say I only played the third Age of Empires...

Basically though I was thinking that the game goes by events (I mean Steam supports Achievements so why not use them?).

Defend against Japan - Achievement
Unify China - Achievement

And so on and so forth

Has plenty of replayability value if you can play different civs and not just china lol.

There could be levels for each civ.

Like America's first level could be Revolutionary War, then Civil War, then one of the World Wars, exc.

Of course, there could be peaceful ones too, but, of course, its a way to show off 1UPT and give us a tactical focus.

Signed.

French and "Indian" war->Revolutionary War->War of 1812->Civil War->Spanish-American War->World War I->World War II->Cold War

Problem is, the idea of winning an early scenario would put the world at a different state/the player in a different position than historically. If you win WWI as a Central power, going to a WWII scenario next is silly. So sure, people can make all these scenarios but I don't see them working as one long game, and not a real reason to include a scenario chain by the developers. They wouldn't be able to do it for every civ and just doing "China" or "America" would be annoying.

yeah, agree with you

What about a civ scenario chain be a $5 DLC (provided it's good)?
