Thanks for your link, I'm surely check this marvelous scenario out! This period of time, is very interesting and according to your readme, it must be a great work!
Well, the last few days, I've found out a bit more about scenario editing in ToT and now I understand how much time this eats up. But it's fun anyway
I'm making a mod of Mr. Temba's Underdark Scenario for ToT and hopefully I'll finish it in the next 5 years or something.
I had to restrict myself to do it in two steps. First step: just recreating it, new graphics (well recycled ones, because I only cut copy/paste and MS Paint...) finishing the labels, games, describe.txt - explain why I changed something, If I did so - and after that searching for the names of all the people whom I've stolen unit-graphics from, to properly credit them. I suppose this will take it's time but I hope to finish it in 2-3 months so ToT-Players can lay their hands on one of the best FW-Scenarios I've seen out there. This one would NOT be something new, only it has more text and newer graphics.
After that, I want to do a mod for it. One thing which is really sad, is that you CANNOT (or at least I did not found out how) use the advanced unit rules of ToT for a converted scenario. This means, If I want to have - lets say - invisible units, I have to start a new game, which means, I have to re-do every step Mr. Temba once did (putting cities etc). This would take supposingly 1/2 of the time, it costs to write a mod instead, so I think it's more sensible to do a mod.
This of course should be done right. Not only do I have to keep up the spirit Mr. Temba put in his scenario (Rebellions instead of Pollution etc. - it's just great how creative he was!) - but also I want to fine tune things he could not do with the FW engine. This means no more "no/no" techs only needed to ensure that not every tribe has the same units. In ToT you can define who can build what. Furthermore I want to put even more thought in the use of advances. I've found a list, which advance does what and this could be helpful to generate side effects. And then, why not let the Surface People go back to the surface later in the game? the ToT-Multi-Maps are there to use!
This will be a huge task, it's like "creating a fantasy game out of the midgard-scenario". And I hope Mr. Temba won't disagree if he finds out
(his email and homepage doesn't work anymore so i cannot ask him).
One question: Is it okey to use and alter the original ToT-graphics or will they sue me to death, if I put it on the net...? And what about graphics and ideas others made? Is it okey to use them, if I make a credits.txt?
