hi
i really like the game, but no one seems to pay attention to the fact that there arent any scenarios in it, because there isnt any editor...
i dont know, i feel like the scenarios were the best part in civ2 , and i dont get it, i really think we shouldnt accept that, they improved so many things in the game , and ruined a very important part of it..
first of all, i would like to ask if any of you has a clue why there isnt a scenario editor in the game, and if there will be one in the future.
i read the sid mier interview, but there was no mention of that, everything is perfect, but this point is cruical for my enjoyment from the game.
maybe we can put some preasure on , so they release an editor, i didnt know about this before i bought the game, and i dont know if i would have bought it, if i knew i couldnt save the world from hitler in ww2(in chiftain, that is)
second thing is, that i want to play the game in spanish, anyway i can change the language to it?
thanks in advance, and i would really like to get an explanation on the scenario point.

It's thought that a scenario editor will be included in the expansion pack. Most likely that and multiplayer will be the big 2 things in an expansion pack. No word on release, or even if there is one for sure in production at the moment.

they should have the editor that was advertised to be in the original civ3, available for another $50 eventually.

i dont get it...
they expect me to pay in order to play or make scenarios?
i bought this game, knowing i will do the next : Read the god damn rules, and start playing WW2 scenario.
now, you all seem to be blind or something, publishing mods, and graphic kits to make rivers look bluer, and saying thanks to snoopy, WHILE THERE ARENT ANY GOD DAMN SCENARIOS.
so cut the crap, and say the truth, in this point, we were cheated, and cheated in order to sell the game twice.
i am very dissapointed, buying a game , and finding out they cut out something from it, i guess i am not that big of a fan, and i get sick of starting with a settler and researching pottery.
sid isnt a god anymore, and instead of all the compliments, we should say the truth, what they did here was unfair and greedy at the least.

Cheated?

Take a look at the Civ3 box and manual, no where on either does it advertise a scenario editor, scenarios, etc.

Now, if on the box it mentioned being able to make scenarios and the game couldn't, then you would be cheated. But I fail to see where we were cheated. You might remember on Civ2 that multiplayer, and all came later.

You must be kidding. OF COURSE we were CHEATED.

Civ 2 had Cheat Mode and scenario-building. It was a major part of the game that helped keep in popular for many years.

Nowhere on the box did Firaxis deign to tell us that THIS version of "Civilization" was so VERY different from Civ 2 containing nonsense such as Culture Flipping, massive Corruption, and many other negative changes. Nowhere on the box did it say we did NOT have a Cheat Mode or scenario-building - which we all rightly expected.

If I knew Civ III had no Cheat Mode or scenario-building I would not have bought it, especially as it's really a beta version. But Firaxis did NOT tell us on the box as they knew it would hurt sales.

well i dont have the box anymore but i think it said something like "a new, more powerful editor", which people could interpret as being able to do more than civ2, which is not correct because in civ2 you could make scenarios and in civ3 you cant. if anyone still has the box, please post what it says. knowing infogreed, it probably says something that isnt technically false advertising, but is designed to make someone assume that the feature will be there.

btw i will not spend another penny on civ3. $50 to microsoft got me Age of Kings, a scenario editor, and multiplayer, which also had servers on the Zone, so you could always find opponents. Its XP included NEW features, NOT ones that should have been included in the first place. $50 to firaxis gets me an unfinished SP game with a lame excuse for an editor. maybe when firaxis releases their XP, they will realise they arent the only game company, if they try to swindle their customers their customers will simply go buy games from another company. Its themselves they are hurting in the long run IMO.

Direct translation from the civ III box (from swedish)

"A game editor is included were you make you own scenarios, maps or changes the rules as you see fit."

Hmmm, well the Swedish box must be different from the American box because the direct quotation from the American box is, "Game Editor Suite lets you create customized civilizations, maps and rules"

Oh, and to Zouave, the box says, "New elements of Culture, Nationality and the Arts help focus empire building efforts" at one place, and at another "CONQUER enemies through enlightened cultural finesse or brute force" which could be conceived as mentioning culture flipping on the box.

Guess so. I think the problem is that the guy who translated the box into swedish probably don't know a damn thing about civ, and either misinterpreted what was written or decided to "spice it up" a bit when he translated it.:D

Here is what it looks like in swedish:

"En game editor ingår där du gör dina egna scenarion, kartor eler ändrar reglerna precis som du vill"

scenarion looks like it equals scenario. :)

Ok, let's stop the complaining. You don't like the game then don't buy anything from Firaxis in the future. If you feel that they lied to you then get your money back. I don't know what laws you have where you live but in American if it is said on the box but is not in the game can be considered false advertisement....and knowing that you would not be held to their EULA...meaning you could copy and distribute their game as much as you wanted. :D Not that I am suggesting that, just showing you how you can "urge" them to give you your money back or face you selling copies of their games, legally, to anyone that wants to buy them. Of course this is all assuming that they actually did "lie" to you on the box. I don't see them as doing this, but I do see many many dislikes in the game for me. The laws in your area can vary and don't take my ramblings as legal advise....there is NO WARRANTY for this information and I don't even reconize that you are reading this. :D

yes cheated my friend, i didnt check the box to see if there were nuclear missles, and i didnt check the box to see if i can save a game , and load it back, and i sure didnt check the box for seeing if i can play scenarios exactly like in civ2.
i am not saying i have a legal case here, not at all, i just didnt expect this kind of trick from the creators of this game, and lets be honest, it shouldnt be that hard to build an editor for a game that you have created, call me paranoid, but i am pretty sure they already had it when they released the game.
but in a way, i am glad, since the comments of some hardcore fanatics indicate that they will buy the NEW EXCITING CIV3, and build scenarios for me.
its important that you all understand, they are trying to make you buy the game twice by not giving you a vital part of it at the first time, when you were sure you will get it.
its up to you customers to make the choice, and make a stand that will be relevant to future tricks on the next civilization game.
some young ambitious employee at firaxis who came up with this idea of selling the game twice is smilling happily, but atleast they should know that we arent happy with it.
i sure aint....

Whats dumb is that after ripping us off they go complain about morpheus and stuff... I honestly think that they would make more money if they lowered the cost and included everything. Also good for Civ4. I doubt someone like Sharky would buy Civ4. He would probably be curious to try it but not to spend money. Thats when people think of piracy. Conclusion: Firaxis are dumb.

However civ3 is wonderful.

Hmmmm, everyone seems to forget about how Civ2 didn't come with all this originally.

I for one feel I've gotten more than my money's worth from this game. From the amount of time I've played it, etc. Sure, some things in it aren't perfect, but name me one piece of software bug free and perfect. I think people just need to cool their jets a bit. You've gotten more from Firaxis than you have most companies. Quite a few patches, etc. A lot of companies put out 1 patch to fix 2 or 3 things and call it good, even with many glaring holes to still be fixed.

If you don't like how they operate, more power to you. No one forced you to buy it, and by assuming something was there, it's only your fault it's not there and being mad over it not being there.

Well AoK came close... at least much closer than civ3. I expected a scenario editor, i got a scenario editor. I expected more options/techs/units than AoE1, and i got them. I expected there to be only a few bugs, and the only big ones i can think of are the farm bug and some villager bugs. None of that can be said about civ3. It is a good game compared to many others i am sure, but i just expected a lot more from Firaxis.

What drives you to keep playing Civ III and posting here Zouave? I don't think I would have the time and energy to do all you do with that stick so far up my ***. :crazyeye: :crazyeye: :crazyeye:
