Science Overflow Bug is an Exploit

I'm not worried about the poor player that exploits this bug to race through the ages with a half-built empire.

What worries me is the good player that exploits this bug to gain 2-3 turns of free science several times during their otherwise normal game.

I don't really understand the opposition to finding a solution.

I hate bumping any thread that has exploits because it usually promotes more people to use it, but in the case of this bug there won't be a completely level playing field until the devs patch it out. The only way that will happen is if the bug gets more exposure, hence my reply.

I think Ribannah's concern is the most valid raised thus far. Someone is definitely clever enough to shave just a few turns here and there, and I think for that reason a lot of people no longer submit HoF games. It's too bad, I miss Moriarte's LPs.

Regardless of whether or not the mods are effectively able to filter out those abusing this bug, there will always be that lingering doubt about other peoples submissions, and that lingering doubt is what keeps some people away imo.

Firaxis NEVER fix bugs, look at civ4, similar bug was never fixes, only HOF mod provided fix.

The problem with such a mentality is that if you start to not play because of possible cheats you're NEVER going to play.

Playing doesn't cost a thing and there is no prize to win. It's only a form of community activity in which people interract to mainly share their experience. The "competitiveness" of it is only ice on the cake. The fear of some shenanigans shouldnt be stronger than just the fun to participate.

Even if we were using a modded game, which I'm all for if it makes people feel safer, I'm pretty sure people afraid of cheats would still not play because of another way of cheating. It's like a never ending phobia when it comes to singleplayer games where everything is on the client side.

Could a modded game truly fix all possible abuses ?

Play mp duels if u want test skills, comparing sp games is pretty dumb.

Too many rnd factors, all what one gets from medal lists and finish times from gots might be who got some idea of the game and whos tips u should apprichiate instead of spam in other sections here.

Not only duels, 4-6 mp games can be a good comparative if all players have more or less equal skills.

By the way, i feel that the mp community is going stronger and stronger and i wouldn't be suprised if as today there is more mp players active than sp players. During week-ends the NQ group is pretty active, more than ever in fact.

Replayability is more intense in mp games due to extreme unpredictability level of players(mixed with an infinite type of players available). That's what make some players moving into the league. It's a completely different world of civ gaming. Every mp players have serious difficulties to return into sp games...and it's certainly not hard to understand :)

Problem is, one with smaller ping has big advantage in mp games. Nearest Us server will give me 250 ping at best, 400 at worst. (live in NZ).

In Sea there simply not enough players.
