Earth. Unfortunately.
I keep seeing people state that when your science slider is at 50%, you turn it off, save up money until you can afford to run it full again. I've looked all over the forum and cannot find anything related to this. Can anyone please explain if this statement is true or not; and if so, why is it true? Thanks.

You want to search for Binary Research. The basic idea is this:

The game may round (and not be in your favor) when it has to multiply commerce output by numbers other than 1 or 0. Also, if you run 0% until you have enough gold to run 100%, other civs may research the techs first, lowering the cost to you. Finally, you will tend to have more $$$ in your account most of the time, which is available for unit upgrades if you suffer a surprise attack.

Thanks for the tip. I'll do that.
