SciFi/Fantasy Unit Graphics

Thanks all. I've updated the units posted above with a Falcon. Never been able to get it to my liking, but I should've included it anyway I suppose...

Jesus this site is a pain - it never uploads files to edited posts for me. Anyway, here is the updated units:

Long ago and far away....in the days before Fairline....we had to make our OWN UNITS!
Tech's SW ships.gif

These are units I made for a never finished Star Wars scenario. They are a Rebel Carrier unit whose designation I forget, a Star Destroyer, an Executor-class Dreadnought, a Hapan Battle-Dragon, a Hapan Battlecruiser, and a Ssi-Ruuk battlecruiser.

Not long after I first bought my first copy of Civ2 around '97, '98, or so (it was the first game I bought for a Windows PC proper (Windows 95, in this case - as opposed to an old DOS computer, or even an older BASIC-using BiOS-dependent computer with external cassette (like '80's music cassettes) data storage computer in my childhood). And, after buying Conflicts in Civilization and Fantastic Worlds, I picked up a cheap (like CAN$2-4) CD labeled "Civ2 Toolkit" by a company that just assembled Internet released fan mods and such for various and assembled them into these CD formats (it also had things like the old Fascism mod with it and such). But, it did have a Star Wars scenario called Tattooine, where there was a big desert and mountain map where the only irrigated/farmland terrain was surrounding the starting cities (and the utter lack of ocean or river made making ones dependent entirely from spreading from the periphery of starting cities. But the factions were something like the Empire, the Rebellion, the Hutts, the Jawas, and a couple others, I think. But the units file was a complete early spread of Star Wars units (mostly planetside ones, but some starfighters, too, I think), including some very obscure Droid models that only appeared briefly in either the Jawa crawler or the Droid processing area of Jabba's palace, and some aliens who only appeared briefly in the Mos Eilsely Cantina or the Jabba's throneroom.

Intriguing. I know bugger-all about the extended SW universe, which I assue your scenario was going to be based in. Who are the Happan and Ssi-Ruuk?

Here's my take on the Executor SSD

Just a thought...Given the great new SSD unit by fairline...Should I make that or the Death Star the super weapon for the SW scenario?

Or both?

I found them in a book my son had called "The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels" of Star Wars. As I understand, they are 2 races inhabiting separate star clusters, so I added these to my map for a bit of color. This was before the prequel series of movies, so none of the characters from those films were known at the time I worked on the scenario.

They're from a trilogy of novels (originally licenced by Lucas as "franchise canon" - that canon status later withdrawn by Lucas - no material from it ever made the big or small screen, and only a few tidbits ever appeared in LucasArts computer games) called the Thrawn Trilogy, which originally covered events only a few years after RotJ (though, I think I'd heard the main villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn, alone, was recycled for the Disney-era "Rebels" cartoon, but I've never watched and have no interest, I can't empirically confirm that).

Here's the fortress/starbase Curt, plus a couple of Separatist ships which IMHO would be better as Pirate ships than the Republic Venator and Acclamator SDs:

"Sometimes I think we're on the wrong side."
"You're starting to sound like a Separatist!"

Sorry, couldn't resist. :P

Patine's sad fanboyism notwithstanding, thanks so much, @Fairline !
Had a ton of PC problems last week and at the weekend, so excuse my lack of reply.

The only unit really needed now is some kind of cargo pod or freight unit. That will round out the main roster, unless I add some more "reward" units.
I must extend a big thanks to fairline once more for being really just the best CIV2 artist around. I hope this scenario is a testament to his work. :)

Pleasure, Curt:)

On your placeholders you're using the frieghter-thingy from the TIE fighter and X-Wing games. Is that what you're after, or would you prefer just a cargo pod on its own? Hope your PC problems are sorted btw, and I'm really looking forward to the scenario. Off on a tangent, Erika mentioned the game SW Empires at War which I hadn't played for years; it turns out I'd bought it in some Steam sale or other so I've been replaying with the mod 'Thrawn's Revenge', which has a pretty similar premise to your scenario I think. What a great game! Recommended to those who've never played it before and great fodder for civ scenario ideas...

Thanks, sir!

The cargo pod is completely open to your interpretation, sir. Something colourful and space-corp looking.
In my view, those old games, with characters like Thrawn are the direction they should have taken the sequels.
This is why I am doing the scenario in the outer reaches, to pay homage to the old SW games...:)

Will do. While ive been making these units i got sucked into the whole canon versus legend controversy. It appears your man Thrawn has received disney canonization, so I'm sure he'll appear at some point in a future game or movie

I saw Disney's "The Force Awakens", and "The Last Jedi". One was passable, the other horrendous.
I'll be making a point of missing any future SW films, and will make my own fan-creation in CIV2! :)
