First, sorry for the potential dumb question.
Second, has anyone created a screen capture (e.g. movie) of a successful victory? I have been around the forums and have not found something I can watch, with the goal of learning from good players.

I see the game of the month winners each month and often think "It would have been cool to be looking over their shoulder..." Well, a screen capture would accomplish that...

Any ideas?
thanks in advance :)

Check the Stories and Tales subforum. You may not see play by play, but generally there is a story based on the turn logs they keep.

I tried keeping a turn log...didn't work out. I'd forget about it for ten or fifteen turns, and not want to back track.

I know of only one Video of Civ3. It´s from Andi79 from the (german)Civilization Webring Forum. It´s called "Hommage to the Jaguar Warrior" and shows the first (uncut) 30 minutes of a deity game with the Aztecs. The game should be easy to win after that...
You better have DSL for it´s 51 MB...

And here ist.... THEEEEEEEEEEEE LINNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKK!!!!

I know the Hall of Fame forums allow you to download the victory turn from each high score - might be worth checking out. Also, occasionally a good player will host a training game where they will post a starting file and a screen shot of the starting location. They will then discuss with new players the potential options and best methods for opening strategy. Then like every 20 turns they will post a new file and have the new players compare it with theirs so they can get an idea of what they should do differently in various aspects of the game in order to get ahead and stay ahead. There's a name for it, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Something I wish for in CivIV is a "save replay" function for the li'l video of your progress at the end of the game.

Have you checked out the CrpViewer? It's part of the same suite of programs with CrpMapStat. You can open a .sav file and watch the replay for the game up to that point. The creator also provides a file that allows you to watch the replays of all the GOTM players, including 2 replays side by side to compare them. You can find the link for the program here: CrpSuite
