Hi i'm playing my 1st game of civ III, having learned a lot from the fourms. My map is like 2 continents seperated by a huge ocean. Each coninent = 4 civ, totalling a number of 8. Because i was lucky when i started, i had iron in the first few turns and killed the Zulues (con 1st) right off the bat. There were also Aztecs and BAbylonians, we traded techs forawhile and i killed both of them eventaully. and i had the entire continnent to myself before meeting the other 4 civ. I went ahead and advanced, and i thought ironclad were some kind of submarine and i was very interested. So i built lots of them and send them to exploring (btw i researched every naval tech from now on). I found out that i can kick Chinese's ass all they had were gallons. So i send my ironclads out to surround the chinese, they couldn't move out or anything and i kept bombarding them. The funny thing is then they allied wit the english and all these Gallons started to rush to my continent, since my land force wasn't good i had to rush a lot of ironclads to stop the invasion. But then my ironclads killed the gallons w/o much trouble, so i surrounded the english. This went on and on i kept bombarding and my naval techs keeps going up. (like mass production) i got a few bombers and destoryers and i started amas bomber and carriers. Wham it rocked my destoryer surrouned the Japanese, and my carriers (wit a few escorts) were bombarding the Persians w/o much trouble. It's my game now. None of them can respond, all they have is land units and their cities by the bay are ruined by bombing... Just wait until i get infantry or paratroopers :)

now i see sea mastery is very imporatnt

It is never a problem to rule the oceans if you are scientifically superior.

Please provide some tips on how to gain the superiority (or at least protect yourself) if you are scientifically behind.
