Search with wildcards

On the search page, it says this under the box for search terms:

Advanced query: Join words with AND, OR and NOT to control your search in more detail.
Add asterisks (*) to use wild cards in your search (*bullet* matches vBulletin etc.)

My question is, does the asterisk actually work? Every time I've tried it I get "no match" even on such queries as "shadow*" (when "shadow" or "shadows" will both return matches.) So am I a blithering incompetent or can we not actually search with wildcards? (And yes, I do realize these options are not mutually exclusive )

When the server was getting kind of overloaded, Thunderfall disabled the use of wildcard searches. AFAIK, we still can't use them.

TF, if this searching with wildcards is indeed still disabled, could you remove that part of the "instructions"?
