I am new to this board and ran through the previous forums, but I did not see anything touching on this, so I apologize if this is a repeat of previous efforts.
In Civ II MPGE (maybe other versions also) you can 'see' where land is before exploring it. This is very handy when trying to find land to send your trireme to.
Here are some shots to illustrate this.
This one shows the unexplored territory but also lets you 'see' that land is there.

Look at the info panel on the right side of the screen. It says the cursor location is (99,81) 30. The 30 tells you that there is land in that square. Each continent has its own number and the Ocean is a 1.
This shot shows the same cursor location but with the entire map revealed.

I have some other screen shots to show the ocean is a 1 and other land is a different number, but you can check that on your own.
P.S. I tried to insert the images as I was told, but they don't seem to come up.??
