i know why its important to spread religion in your own civ, by why is it important to spread it to others?

Well I am sure that there will be other reasons but it means that the country will behave better towards you at trading time.

2 reasons -

1) They are more likely to convert to your religion, improving diplomatic relations.
2) You get 1 gold/city that has your religion if you build the holy shrine.

does it better your chances of a culture flip in certain cities?

speaking of which has anyone actually managed to get a foreign city to switch to you yet? Have played 3 games so far and not managed to do it.

:goodjob: my last game i had three flip to me

Early in game development, if a city converted to your religion, you could have line-of-sight for that city (meaning, the fog of war would be lifted as if you had a unit stationed there). However they took out that feature, which kind of disappointed me :( But I think that the game balance is better now that it is gone.

The last game I played I went for a culture victory. I had 3 cities flip to me, including my neighbors capital (And this was a creative neighbor!). I'm sure it helped that I founded 4 religions and had CRAZY culture output from the buildings :)

well i can understand wanting to spread it if you can build a shrine to that religion, but what happens when they get free religion you've just given them another religion to make them happy in all those cities, it doesnt seem worth it to benifit them when tring to benifit yourself

I'll admit have have only played one game, but I am sure I got the LOS bonus. I now at some point I could "see' 4-5 other cities that were very far from my country.

What game are you playing, cause that's how it works on the one I got.

@ Kid icorus:
Current game I hve 4 holy cities, 3 shrines working on 4th making an average of 20+ gpt from each. Religion is a cash cow! Raise and slaughter it effectively.

Actually, in my current game, the fog of war has been lifted on the cities where I sent missionaries...

Line of sight is only granted if you have the religion's SHRINE in your empire...

Edit--- AND it's your state religion.
