Settler's edition announced

Looks like Founder's edition without tiles and palace skin, but cheaper.
Looks like a PR nightmare - they just repacked the same product and added some marketing shenanigans to it.

Why would anyone purchase this with all the negative publicity ? It’s literally just the founders edition and this is what I paid for the founders edition.

To me, this literally screams desperation

That's a bit offtopic, but there's a constant stream of base game sales and when RtR was released, it was sold in enough numbers to bring Civ7 to Steam Top100 by earnings.

Sure, negative reviews hurt sales, but far from totally stopping them. So it makes sense for Firaxis to sell bigger bundles for higher per-sale earnings.

It is a money grab.

By the way the founder's edition cosmetics were disappointing.

New scout skin = Just the normal scout, buy surrounded by more scouts, just a copy paste work

New fog of war = Looks like the normal fog of war exept some of the tiles have a golden vii logo

New palace = Ok it is pretty, but maybe a little out of place

I do not think this will achieve much other than piss off the People who bought the Founders edition.
But why? We bought Founder's Edition to access all content as early as possible. I would be surprised to see nothing of it going cheaper in half a year time. Yes, some things are all time cheaper, not just on discount, but it makes small difference.

If the game worked for me, I would have loved to give Firaxis $150 or whatever for the Founder's edition and even more for DLCs down the line. Civ6, which entertained me for nearly 5,000 hrs, has been an exceptional investment for me, even paying full price for the whole thing. In its current state with its mechanics, Civ7 has zero pull on me, unfortunately. Maybe after the first expansion.

That being said, a 30% sale is always nice for those that were waiting for one.

I bought the founder's edition and I don't care about this. Knowing things will be available later for cheaper is just part of buying games. If I waited three years, I could probably get the "complete edition" or whatever they end up calling it with all the dlc for £20.

I'm not commenting on the 7's pricing overall; my point is just that the idea with founder's editions is just a convenient way to get everything available at launch day 1, if not sooner. There was never a promise of exclusivity or it being a fantastic deal or anything.

Coming from someone that bought regular edition on launch, then upgraded to Founders within the first couple of weeks - I fully expected all the non-cosmetics to come back eventually in a bundle. I fully expect a string of complete versions coming out a few months after each future DLC drop. This is how it's worked with Civ games for well over a decade, and this is how it should work. You pay premium if you want to play early, or wait for a more acceptable price if you don't. If anything, I find Nintendo's model of never dropping the price far more annoying.

Also, it's been six months to a day from when the game launched. This is exactly when I would guess discount will drop, if I were to make a guess for any 2K game.

I mean, I am glad people are able to get all the available product made for Civ7. Limited edition FOMO stuff is always a bad look. The actual value of founders edition Civ7 is another topic entirely.
Well some cosmetics are staying limited edition…which is good for those that bought Founder’s as opposed to Settler’s.

CD keys is cheaper than Steam, at least for base. Should I give 7 a chance now or await further development?

I don't think it's a straightforward answer. Civ7 still has a lot of rough edges, and as much as I complain about the game as a whole, they have got antiquity down perfectly, it's after that when things go downhill very fast. It is still the closest you'll get to early access without being early access, so are you ok with that?

I wouldn't buy the DLC in the current form Firaxis are releasng them, Civ switching makes them a very poor value proposition...
