Hi, I'm looking for the board game Settlers of Catan in English. The US distributor for the game has gone out of business, and I'm wondering if anyone has bought it recently from one of the online stores.

Any help would be much appreciated, as this game seems to be all the rage in Europe but not in the US.

E-Bay is about the only place you are going to get it.

Getting the German version isn't too bad either, then getting the different cards translated would be easy enough.

It's a great game though, and very addictive!

Yes, this game is really cool. The only unrealistic thing is that you start inland and make your way out to the coast. But if youre settling this new inland, shouldnt it be the other way around?

This is my favorite board game too. I even have a self made frame which fits the outline of the island exactly because I couldn't stand it when the tiles were sliding. I'm also working on my own custom set of roads and buildings in exotic wood.

Unfortunately I can't tell where to get the english version, since I live in germany.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys.

Let me take a slightly different tack then: Does anyone have any experience with this website, Funagain Games.com? http://www.kumquat.com/cgi-kumquat/funagain/01167
I'm trying to find out if they are reliable or a hoax, because they have the lowest price on the game.

Thanks again in advance.

My local games store has a lot of German games and they have found sites which translate the rules etc. They include a print out with the game when you buy it, which is cool. But they have English versions of all the Catan games. So if you're ever in London... :)

Oh, cromagnon, I checked at my local game store (Gamescape) and they actually still have it. Plus they have Seafearers of Catan, an expansion, and 5-6 player expansions for each. So, if London is a bit far, just come to CA... ;)

Thanks guys. I've actually just ordered it from a place via EBay, and I'm expecting shipment soon. I'll let you know if there are any problems from the vendor.

Good news! I received a sealed English version of Settlers of Catan from the Ebay store I used. All looks well, although I have not opened it yet (it's a surprise for my girlfriend), so I give this place a

If anyone needs a reference to the place, PM me.

Now that you have ordered already: Since a week or two there is PC version.....

Thanks, Stapel, I knew about the PC version, but there's something more appealing about 4 people gathered around a table rather than 4 people gathered around a computer. :)
We stayed up until 3 AM this weekend playing! :D

What? Theres a pc version?

Maybe this game is starting to be milked like the Sims... :hmm:

Then again, why not? :)

For those having trouble getting a copy of it outside of London:

I was on vacation in Victoria, BC, last week, and was surprised to see a stack of half a dozen of them for sale. Priced at CD$69 each, which seems pretty steep to me even after the exchange rate. They also carried several other European games that had won awards in recent years but which you never see in the US.

If there aren't still any cheap copies available from online retailers, I may well regret having not bought one.
