Settlers of the Planes - Fantasy mod concept and brainstorming

Basically the idea I'm gonna go for is that they are just a humanoid race native to the alternate planes of existance that can naturally planewalk and so is often present in the wars of domination between the other factions. I don't really have the graphical resources and the game engine freedom to make them totally unlike the rest, but I'll try to make them as odd as possible.

If it weren't for the notorious Sub Bug, that is... Unless of course I *want* the Planari to be in constant war with everybody. That would be interesting.

Tehe. Could be interesting, but I rather refrain from doing that for now.
 
when i thought up the planari i pictured twisted middle-eastern/western europe culture mix, who dont like the idea of other beings using their home as a battlground and there fore want them out. Maybe the lich king gave false promises about this, saying i will force them out and thats how he got power and uses the planari hordes to do his bidding. mwahahahaha

I think it's better to seperate the Lich King from the Planari... Twice the fun that way. ^^
Anyway, I will give some eviller nations Planari units requiring the Planari resource, symbolizing their abuse of the Planari through false promises like what you suggested.
 
Any comments from any of you about the tech ideas I posted earlier?
I feel like fleshing out the tech tree may be very hard to do, if anyone has ideas of techs to add, speak up.

Yeah, I thought so... I tend to take ridiculous things seriously, especially late at night (like in the case at hand).

They will have a seperate tech tree for the most part but they may share some techs later in the game... I'll make sure to balance it by giving them fewer techs to research and having each of those techs be very influential so there's no wasted time if they choose to work hard on research.
 
Youll needhumans obsessed with making a quick buck. Others obsessed with magic if High elves are out.

You could change the High elves to Magic USers though that is used alot. If you do the pirate humans should be the dominating naval force.

Okay, I like that idea, a faction that focuses on magic. Also like the idea of a faction that is obsessed with money. Both should probably be human.
Now I really need some comments on the tech tree issue so I can start actually working on the mod in the editor.
 
Just do it like its done in the WH mod. You know how certain civs cant get certain techs. Only do it for the entire tree of this particular civ.

Yes, but I still don't even know what techs to put on the human tech tree... I suggested afew but I would like feedback on them as well as ideas for more.
 
This sounds like a good idea. I think that the Planari's should be a combo of Vampires/Khemri/Choas. They should have a condensed tech tree with a few unit producing wonders. They should be anti-social and have a very militaristic oriented government. I would also like to help in the development of this MOD. I am only able to get on the internet about 2-3 times a week due to school/volleyball. I would love to help. :goodjob:

Great to see there are still people interested in this concept.
I wanna make clear that I don't intend this to be some kind of remix of things from Warhammer (since people keep reffering to factions from that world.) I want to keep things as original as possible within the constraints of the graphics available for use in the mod.
I'll write some more tomorrow, I'm too tired right now to be coherent (why is it that I always post at hours like these? =\)
