Hello,

I have been lurking in the forums for quite some time now and have now come out into the open for some technical difficulties.

I recently decided to uninstall Civilization 4 because of other, unrelated MOD difficulties, and upon reading a solution for this same problem on the forums, the user said to uninstall Civ for it to work, and the other person seemed to have great success with this, so being the good little lemming I am, decided to uninstall. I successfully uninstalled all my Civilization 4 programs (I have Civilization Complete), but ran into a rather major snag with reinstalling.

Whenever I try to install, It gives me popup saying "Setup.exe has stopped working" and the typical, windows shall now shut the program down because we are evil, blah blah blah... I have tried bypassing this by going into safe mode, did not work. I have tried to open Setup.exe and find out what its problem is, it gave me the same popup. I have tried to run as the administrator, same popup. :crazyeye:

I honestly do not no what to do next. If any of you guys have any idea of what to do, please say so.

TL,DR: I have Vista, I uninstalled Civ 4 complete, am failing to reinstall because of Setup.exe, I have tried numerous other things to try to bypass, none working. Help please?:(

I've uninstalled Civ 4 and then reinstalled it many times and it always works for me. I too have Vista. That is wierd. I have no idea what could be causing that. Sorry dude.

Welcome to CFC :band:

try to delete or rename \program files\common files\Installshield
or if you have 64bit vista also: \program files (x86)\common files\Installshield
then install with admin rights (i.e. right click on the installer and choose run as admin).

Thank you for your quick reply. To ori, I tried both of your options and the first did nothing, and the second I do not have the authority to do, and since I can not run as admin without it shutting down, I cannot delete it.

Any more suggestions on that or new ideas?

PS: Thanks for the warm welcome!:)

EDIT: Sorry about that, I was able to go to safe mode, delete it, then reinstall running as admin, but to no avail, I still have the same problem

The problem has now been resolved. Through use of safe mode, firewalls and uninstalling/installing certain prgrams I was finnaly able to reinstall Civ, and feel better and happy inside now :):p:goodjob:

Thank you all for your support, and i hope to see you around. :)
