I'm looking at upgrading my PC and I was wondering what setup would give me enough power to run Civs on max settings. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what the minimum for max settings is, but I use an i5 quad, with 4Gb memory, Windows 7 home premium, and a GTX460 nVidia graphics card. It's a good games computer without being too expensive.

What kind of power supply and motherboard do you have? I'm doing a total rebuild and i'm looking for something along the lines of your spec

You'd need a video card better than NVIDIA GeForce 460 for sure, on my desktop rig, the game runs well, but has severe lag around the "End Turn" part, and that's with "Medium" on most settings and 2x Anti Aliasing. The end turn lag has improved since the last patch, but it's still hardly smooth play, esp. with 6 or more players on the same map.....all of which is to say, the lag is just one reason why I find myself playing Civ IV more than Civ V.

Thanks man, I'm trying to figure out what would run Civ V on high or ultra without any huge lag spikes... my current pc gives me aroung a 10 - 30 second pause on medium with 8 or more players :( any sugestions on a graphics card that wont put me on welfare?

i7 2600k
GTX 470
Intel SSD

Everything maxed out and it runs smoothly even on large maps with about 20 opponents.
