SevoMod 3

I now have a GF 6800 XT installed in my other computer....12hours without crashing to desktop..with my ATI i have a crash once in a while, but unlike many reports they cannot play any further, i don't have that problem..

I just load a savegame of some turns back, and then i can play again..

Here's a list of my experience with civ4

-November, installed civ4 1.00 on my ATI 9800 Pro maschine, got CTD like a uzi shooting bullets
-December, I installed the 1.51 patch, still no luck, i updated my 5.11 ATI drivers to 5.12, still no luck
-January 2006, i finally rolled back to the 4.11 drivers of ATI, all problems solved!
-February 2006, playing sevos mod only, no crashes on the ATI 4.11 drivers, tried the new ati 6.2 drivers to test if they fixed it, they didnt!!
-March, same as february, just playing old ATI drivers, no crashing
-April 2006, installed the patch 1.61 and SEVO(I don't play the game without sevos mod anyway) got the CTD again, this time even on the 4.11 ATI drivers
-April 2006, bought a GF 6800 XT, all problems of CTD gone

hardly think this to be a SEVO mod error!! I think firaxis has problems with ATI cards..just like all other software manufacturers in the world :) i mean, look at the Release notes of all ATI drivers, it seems there are getting more and more bugs on all software every month! :) I have 2 friends playing Civ4 without CTD, all Geforce cards! of course, 3computers don't represend all the different computer systems out there..it's just an idea, maybe this isnt sevo mod related, it's civ4 in combination with some graphic algorithms. or whatever..

Sorry to say his mod does have problems, the post above you I assume you were replying to is the same error I keep getting. But I'll agree getting a Gforce card over an ATI would be preferred.;)

I suppose there could be problems with graphics cards,I'ts hard to assume so considering no one has stated whether Vanilla Civ 4 works or not. I have the GF 6600GT & vanilla works fine. I also play Great Generals Amped & since he made the game 1.61 compatable, no problems with that mod either.

Now when I first bought civ4,well,I kept getting CTD"S all the time. I added 1 gig of ram to my computer & used the graphics drivers from the manufacturers web site. Got rid of Norton anti-virus (resource hog) & this game has'nt crashed since.

The larger the mod the harder the difficulty it is to make compatable, heck Great Generals Amped is only 3 mb,Sevo's mod is 396 mb's  so it's expected to have problems,no ones perfect. Sevo when you finally work out the bugs I'll be playing this game quite often, great job!

Btw,if any modders on here would care to update Snaift's mods to be compatable with the 1.61 patch it would be appreciated. Most of his mods are small in size,so it should'nt be too hard....I'm trying but getting no where.

Has anyone tried using this mod in multi-player? Works fine for me in single player but when I try to start a game between my wife and I via LAN I CTD as soon as I try to form a game.

[BUG]

I just finished my first game with this Mod... unfortunately it does not show the Score in the Hall of Fame. Not really ab big thing, I just wanted to mention it. There is actually something showing in the table, but without anything in the coloumn. Maybe its just at my Comp?!

[/bug]

Might have already been reported, but I started a game as Nguni and my nearest neighbor is Mongolia. We both share the same border color, so when we ended up with borders that touched, there's no distinction where the actual border is between us.

Can mods such as this play on the huge earth 180x67 maps made by switches or aeric67, or does it come with a huge real earth map of its own?

I started making a huge map for sevomod, but after i kept getting crashes i gave up on it. also, it's really too big to play on for an extended game, maybe if your computer was top of the line its 204x104 i had gotten most of it done before i quit so ill post it now, it's horribly unbalanced but other than that quite playable(well except for the size) ... (also havent placed floodplains yet)

im playing noble (not too hard :-)) and normally im better than my opponents, but this time im just overwhelming them.

Well, Merum thinks it's harder. I dunno, to tell the truth. At every step I've tried to make sure I'm not giving the player any undue advantages, but it's difficult to predict what a mod of this size might be subtly doing the AI's gameplay. I actually decreased the starting health in cities a bit to make early expansion harder for everyone.

Try moving up to monarch and see what you get!

As to the crashes: I have two things I'm working on that might fix the problems.
The first is a graphical fix that will reduce the new leaderheads in terms of processing power and cost. It's possible that my overriding of the non-shader leaderheads is burning up some of the CPU's out there with limited graphical memory or something. It's just a guess, but it's something that I can try, so we'll give it a rip. I've also found a handful of python bugs that could be responsible for the multiplayer problems and may well be causing crashes as well.

I hope to release a patch later tonight.

Could it fix this problem? (patch C)
It crashes on MP: When the host presses launch, the game CTD's. It works fine on SP though, and on another PC the MP works fine too...

Could some sort of large-scale copy-paste help? (these are on LAN)

Hey Sevo this seems like an excellent mod. I have browsed through the Sevolopedia and all the things you have added seem really cool and great and all.

The problem is, I can't play it. I got the cheshire cat leaders too, once again only for the new leaders. I also have a problem where the terrain is black (I think the two bugs are linked somehow, as I had them in vanilla but then patch 1.52 fixed both. I didn't see anything about the terrain part in any other posts though, so maybe they aren't). Anyway I just wanted to mention the black terrain thing too.

As was said earlier I understand that it is my fault for having a computer that isn't really up to par for playing cIV,:badcomp: and that you shouldn't feel you have any obligation to fix them, but if you did (or told me how to do it) that would be splendid.:mischief:

EDIT: Sorry if any of this stuff has been already said. I read the last couple pages, but not the whole thread (250 posts :scared:).

I don't think it's harder with your mod... it's very well balanced. I think 1.61 in general is a little bit harder. What's hard for me about the mod is that I get the builder's sickness (we really need a 12-step program for this) and tend to let my military suffer in order to build all the cool stuffs.

Incidentally, I got into a game where I CTD'd, and then none of the saves would load. Every autosave (I never save otherwise unless I have to walk away from the game for a while) of that game I loaded CTD when I tried to load it. A fresh game did not. Sadly, the fresh game I loaded caused me to overwrite all the autosaves. If it happens again, I'll pull them out of there first.

Okay...I think I'm finally starting to see an emerging pattern here.

There are two distinct crash-to-disks, and I *MAY* have identified them both. May. Have. Maybe. Mebbe.

The first CTD I'm fairly certain is being caused by RealSlavery. This crash is recoverable from any savegame and you can continue playing without any problems. Something about the line creating the new slave unit--SOMETIMES, rarely?--causes the game to crash. I even know which line it is--now I just have to figure out what the fix is.

The second CTD is the one that happens between game turns and is NOT recoverable. This might have been caused by realSlavery also--and I stripped out the code that was suspect--but I think it actually was an implementation with my KillList mod changes. Shqype, it was actually your screen shot showing the Unidentifiable C++ exception that helped me out. I found a python error after some of my playing that showed the same line having trouble loading data from the kill list. If that was to blame then this game would truly not be recoverable, because anytime the system tried to load that data from the saved kill list it would crash.

I'm making fixes and patches up as we speak.

Also, I believe I've addressed the goofy leaderheads issue for those of you using the graphics cards from your Apple IIe's. ;) I'll include a fix in the next patch (which may require another big upload...we'll see). As to the black terrain issue mentioned above--I've never heard of this one. Screenshot? Certainly a weird issue.

Yeah all the units and resources show up okay, but the tiles are just all black. Grasslands, plains, hills, water, everything is just black. There is a thread I could look through again in the Tech Support forums where a lot of people reported this problem, if I need to.

I'm not to good with this internet stuff. How would I get a screenshot up here? Well, first how do I take a screenshot? It's like the "printscreen" key on the keyboard or something, right?

Here is a link to the other thread I was talking about. There is a screenshot there (it's like the 3rd or 4th post on this page). http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=133056&page=2

I know what this is. I had this problem on my father's computer: a 3-year old Dell with horribly "Dell Integrated Graphics." The problem was it didn't have the shading abilities needed for Civilization 4. Not only was the terrain black, but about 85% of the leaderheads were transparent, with only some parts showing, effectively emulating a very freaky ghost.

The solution? I disabled on-board graphics and added a new graphics card: the ATI Radeon 256 MB 9250 card. So now CIV 4 runs beautifully on my dad's old computer and I kick my brother's ass in Civilization 4 :)

That makes sense. I'm glad to see that I was able to help out :)

I'm waiting for the patch!

A good call, I have the integrated graphics too, and that's definately the main problem. I can't change the graphics card on my labtop, though, I'm afraid:cry:. I know there is some other way to fix it, because the 1.52 patch fixed it without me needing to change my hardware any. I'll have to look around I guess and see what others say.
