SG for Under 10's

For JP (my subject) it is bringing so many new areas of interest to his attention that otherwise he would not have got for a number of years, and whenever we see anything that has a historical perpective I try to relate it to civ, so that he does have an interest in it. When he recently declared that he only believes in one God (we don't know where that came from, but 7 year olds hear a lot), I was able to tell him that the belief in one god is called Monotheism, which is a term he is very familiar with from Civ.

Ultimately I'm here as JP just likes to have fun, and I'd prefer he was doing this rather than playing some other games, or watching those terrible fighting cartoons that I always see.

@ smackster - maybe do one of the conquests on chieftan? Historical perspective, no need to build lots of infrastructure in some of them and they're short.
Yes this is a good idea, JP has not played any of them. Do you have a suggestion, I've not really played them much myself.

I'd rule out the Mezoamerica or Japanese - too many unique rules. Likewise for MA - too much attention needs to be paid to trading. Napoleonic Wars is a little tuff cause of the emphasis on alliances. How bout the Age of Discovery? Fairly easy, emphasis on gathering treasure and returning it home when playing as the europeans. Not too many units or civs to manage. Plus every kid has heard of Columbus and the colonization of the new world.

That sounds good, I'll take a look, and post a picture, description and save etc (tomorrow). Lets introduce the game to the kids and let them discuss a little what they will do (with appropriate prompting), who will play first etc.

I would like to join :) I'm GMT, and would love a game of The Age of Discovery :)

Sure, but he's away at the moment tomarrow?

Great! :D I can't wait! :D

Just talked with my brother(7), and he'd like to do it. If one of y'all could post a save, let's get this started.

Why Age of Discovery? Its kinda boring. Are we using pics? and whoes first up?

here's something to get us on our way.

I think it will be a good game to play, and I'm thinking about Regent level at least so that we really have to work as a team. If you've played it before then you will need to play it like you have not, so that you don't spoil it for the other players.

What makes a succession game interesting is that you play as a team to win the game. So it does not really matter what map we play on.

Might wanna discuss who we are. I've played all except the French and the Dutch. We also need to agree to avoid exploits like moving our palace to the new world.... Like the Spanish for their UU. Makes moving treasure real easy. As the spanish, only problem is I have is this tendancy to want to gobble up Portugal at the beginning of the game. Anyway, Linebacker and I will go with the flow on whatever the team decides.

Does Linebacker know about palace jumping, as Kep certainly does not (that is what my 7 year old has now chosen for a name). I certainly don't want to play any exploits, lets try to play it realistically, so we need to keep our homeland in Portugal as we value that. I've decided we should play as Portugal.

The intent is that the kids play this, the adults are only here to make sure the game flows. I'm going to let Kep play first, but I want each child to have a look at the save and post their suggestions before Kep plays. I target Monday to play the first 10 moves, (no need for 20 on this one).

I'm about to adjust the first three posts with all the info.
