When calaculating the pop needed, the game takes bonuses into account.
At epic e.g. you get 44 hammers by one pop, with a forge this would be 55 hammers.
But then when calculating the number of hammers given, it doesn't take bonuses into account but finishes the building, meaning if less then 44 hammers are missing, you get 44, if more than 44 are missing, you get 88.
With a forge that means, that if betwenn 45 and 55 hammers are missing, you get 88 hammers for one pop.

Some of you posted in my "computer troubles" thread. Well, since posting that I hadn't had a problem with anything, so I never did bother with replacing my power supply. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play even a full turn without my computer shutting down, so it looks like I better try the power supply suggestion, as well as pass the turn back to Samson.

1544 (2): Vilcabamba city defenses to 0%. Cav kills Pike (76%), Cavs kill the Longbows (~ 95%) and Vilcabamba is Egyptian! I decide to keep it, the whole area is **** and relocating doesn't make things better. A 4/5 Cav kills the Knight and goes 6/5.

Logistics: shipchain 3 more units to Tiwa and move a Galleon to create a shipchain to Cuzco. Move another 2 Grens and pults towards Cuzco. 4 Cavs move towards Cuzco to see troops there. Check trades, no change.

IT: nada

1547 (3): Logistics as mentioned before. Pic of Cuzco stack. Looks large but a lot of troops are on their way. Silverado completes Courthouse after using the whip. It was -8, now -3. 2 commerce is lost due to the whip so net gain is +3, otherwise it would have been another 41 turns. Moscow goes -1 . Renegotiate Pigs/Gems for Dyes/Gems.

IT: Knight and 2 Maces attack the Cavs near Cuzco and die. Another promotion, one cav will be healed in time, one takes a little longer and one does not have to heal at all.

1550 (4): Logistics. Some cities completing units are on Unies now.

1553 (5): Logistics. Moscow starts Oxford. Gandhi has Chem, trade Chem with Roos for Economics, 490 and WM. Switch to Free Market.

IT: Inca waste another Knight on a Cav, isn't even scratched. . Salad offers Open Borders, accepted.

1556 (6): Gren kills Pike defending Iron, Cav pillages the Iron. Bomb Cuzco defenses to 16%. Logistics.

IT: nada

1559 (7): Just the cavs near Cuzco outnumber defenders 12 / 9. Battle summary: 2 lowest ranking pults cause coll. damage but die. Cuzco is captured without further losing a unit, lowest odds 92,6%. Details in the log. 7 Cavs and 3 pults move 2 Corihua, 2 Cavs and a pult to Macchu Pichu. Damn, Tiwa revolted prev. turn but can't flip any more. Rifling is in, on to Steel. With Cannons we'll simply cut through the next AI.

IT: nada

1562 (8): Performance drops to unacceptable levels so I have to shutdown & restart the game. Cav moves next to Corihuay, 2 Longbows and odds are 95,3%. No reason losing time so 2 Cavs attack and capture Corihuay. The 3 pults are moved to a tile where they have the option to either Olyantambo or Macchu Picchu. 5 Cavs move direction Olyantambo and 6 will be available for Macchu Picchu.

IT: nada

1565 (9): Logistics. 2 Galleon start moving to the E of the Inca island to pick up units and invade the small Inca island. Olyan is defended by 2 units (Mace and Longbow) 40& defense so no pults needed.

IT: nada

1568 (10): Double flanking Cav attacks Olyan with 66% odds, counting on flanking but it kills the Mace. Next Cav has over 90% against the Longbow but flanks! . 3rd Cav goes at 100% odds and is undamaged. Olyan is in the pocket and 3 healthy cavs move to most eastern Inca city. Pondering to attack MP with 60% defense and although it might succeed Shabba also deserves his part of the fun so I move units in for bombardment first. Inca have put 2 LBs and a settler on the on-tiler S of Cuzco so we need to fight that city as well. Great Scientist in BK, I leave it untouched for the team to decide. Rooney gets red! Bit more WW now but the Inca will be history during Shabba's turn. 2x2 Gallies are en route to the Inca islands, MP under siege and Vilcas can be captured 2 turns from now.

Items for discussion:
- Techpath, go diplo or mil., move on to Arabia?

We could research SciMeth next to detect the oil but that will obsolete Monasteries and oil is useless anyway without Comb. and with the size of our empire it will be hard to miss oil. A mil. techpath would require Infs and Arties as a prio but noth needed for Arabia. Mass Media is 5 techs away but starts with SciMeth, if we want to go to Comb. first add 4 techs. Quite a couple of things for a good discussion imo.

Shabba is next, I'm going to play AC/DC - Walk all over you very loud now.

Copperfield builds a jewish missionary. We're creating these missionaries so we can switch to judaism later on, but since we're in theocracy we can't use them now. Copperfield is making a rifleman now; there's 1 other jewish missionary under construction, and we already have another one, so we can't make more for the moment. We could have used some hindu missionaries to get us some happiness and culture in Arabia. I'm considering switching civics, but the only one that makes sense now is organized religion. Though it seems we're making nothing but building atm, OR is 30 gpt more expensive so I decide against that.
FnC builds a bank. At first I wanted to build a temple there, because of the war weariness, but I decide on a hindu missionary instead. Because of aforementioned reason, obviously Because of the WW I make another specialist, starving the city instead of letting it grow.

In my opinion we are quite unprepared to attack america. We have a force of 4 infantry, 10 cavs and 5 cannon against americas mostly riflemen (and that is leaving 1 unit per city in arabia). I do not think this is enough to take many cities. We will not have any reinforcements for a good while as all cities are building factories (and then coal plants). Riflemen kill cavs (they get 25% against mounted units). You really need genaderers of Infantry against riflemen.

My choice of action would be to sit tight until our factories are built then go for war or perhaps just take the UN (we seem to be reaserching at a reasnoble rate). We are nearly 1/2 way through phisics, I would have saved up a bit of cash and bought physisc off gandi (+ steam power), and then got biology and some money back for railroad. But hey, not very important.

I may just be able to play late tonight but more likely tommorrow evening. If anyone thinks we should attack, then I would apperitiate being skipped, or post your thoughts.

Note that bombers require radio as well. We only get fighters with flight. If you have a load of them they are pretty powerfull.

I think Gandi is happy with the washington, but not with Cyrus. An option would be to attack him instead. We could probably do it much sooner, as he is much weaker. Also he is close to our FP so maintanace would be lower.

We have a nice little tech lead on washington now, with Infs and soon fighters, so it MAY be a good time. I offen find it better to go for the easy targets first however.

I think the most important thing at the moment is to get a civic that gives us 2 more exp. points. It is very powerfull for Infs to have the anti-gunpowder promotion (pinch?) out of the box, esp. if america get infatry before or while we are attacking. We must be making a good few milatry units ATM. I think I would prefer Vassalage to Theocracy, 'cos we are likely to need the happiness for combatting WW.

Completed the PA testgame this weekend. In brief it is quite a lengthy procedure because you need to be in either / both (???) a defensive pact or common war to start a PA.

Standard map, normal speed, pelago and exaxtly the same civs as in our game. Cathy turned out to be the most likely candidate so efforts were focussed on that. This includes giving in to demands. As soon as PA's appeared on the trade table Cathies opinion was we hadn't been "long enough in a defensive pact or common war" imo the best indication a PA is likely. I would have to check the saves I made but iirc it took about 50 turns from the first defensive pact to the PA at normal game speed. At Epic this most likely will require more turns.

So imo domination can achieved faster the aggresive way from where we are now than by prepping for a PA.

As far as where to attack, I think the best way would be to take dammasucs (1 turn from our terotory) and then the other one near us so as to reduce the lenght of our front. Then go for washington if we are strong enough.

The other question is weather to go for radio (bombers and Mass media) or industrialism (tanks). I think radio.

Any thoughts wellcome before I play the next few turns.

At the moment I am only building fighters. I think we probably have enough in arabia for a limited offensive and defence. I expect to be able to reduce the border to a straight line acrost the continent at least.

The big thing I think would be to upgrade some naval units. I think we have some caravels around russia, they can upgrade to destroyers. I think that costs around 1000 (about 1 turns GNP). Is that better than waiting a few more turns?

This is the question. We now have to decide for certain if we go for peacefull doplo win or domination (or perhaps diplo where we have enough votes ourselves). Unless lots of people vote against it, I shall stay on the war footing. I am not certain I will be confident enough to declare war in the next 3 turns, but we shall see. I shall turn reaserch off so we can upgrade in emergency situations.

T5: 1780 AD Yikes, lose 2 destroyers to the one American Detroyer in our shipping lane, but then finish it with a Frigate.

Boston's defenses reduced to 0, start bombing the defenders. Move SoD with 5 Inf and 7 cannon next to the city. Theres a large number of Cav's in Damascus that need to be moved out to help with the taking of this town. Leave the exact positioning up to the next player, as he may deem the current SoD enough (especially considering the fighter damage that can be done).

There's a Frigate in Yaroslavol' If we want to make a beachhead in Cyrus land. Tarsus is close and would be a good city to have to make inroads on Cyrus. I'm also moving some Galleons over towards Cyrus as well since they are easy pickings for the American Destroyers.

Also, the Ship chain has now shifted down to Houston from FishNChips, though it can be better optimized and protected if it originates from Clam Chowder next.

IT: Something weird happens. The stack moving to Washington for some reason moves 1 tile NW. I'm 100% sure I just moved it 1 tile SE on the hill. Weird. Roos sends a wounded cav near Najran.

1788 (4): Said Cav dies against one of ours. Bomb Tarsus, NY.

1790 (5): Kill last destroyer Roos has offshore near Riverside. Move stack next to Washington. NY and Tarsus bombings. Send 4 more Infs to America, the last ones as I feel we are strong enough there.

1794 (7): Bombings on Tarsus and NY. Cuzco produces first bomber > Yaroslav. Healing turn for the stack in Washington. There is a significant number of troops in NY still.

1796 (8): Destroyers bring defenses in NY and Tarsus to 0. Bomber and fighters do airstrikes on Tarsus. Next turn an amphib attack should be possible. Another healing turn in Washington.

IT: nada

1798 (9): 2 bombers and 2 fighters perform airstrikes on Tarsus. Amphib attack on Tarus. Cannon dies on Rifle. Inf, cav, cav, rifle kill 3 rifles and a gren. Destroyer bombs Sidon. Just 4 Rifles there. Washington stack starts moving to the Big Apple.

IT: Roos falls in the trap of leaving NY with 2 Destroyers and 3 loaded Transports now I moved the 3 destroyers 1 tile back.

1800 (10): Locate the fleet near Philly. Sink 2 destroyers and 1 Transport. 2 Destroyers are good enough to kill the Transports next turn. It is very important to locate and sink them because we have a poorly defended city on the island N of Philly.

We got 7 Bombers now and 4 more in production. Imo we should keep on producing Bombers in Incaland and switch back to Infs in our homeland. Most Persian cities can be taken by naval / aerial bombing followed by a naval invasion. America should be a piece of cake now, the main factor is the speed of moving units.

Having said that there are 2 Americian shitholes on the S of that island. Seattle and Chicago. For Seattle we could we use the 14 Cavs in the area assisted by bombers. Chicago requires either a naval invasion or finishing Salading first. I'd say the latter.

We need 12,6% and my guess is expanding borders in former America will be enough but lets take Persia to be sure. We should make sure to only build culture if a city comes out of revolt. We don't need any more techs so bad maintenance isn't an issue, we could even allocate income to culture to speed up the process.

Soc and me already said yes to SGOTM 2 so we are with three now, hope Gram and Shabba will be with us as well. [:)]

1800 a.d. Open the save. Now, I mentioned something about "nice arrows", but what are those things doing in civ4? I think I really need to take some time off to read the manual someday...

1802 a.d. Sweet spot builds a bomber, building another. Vilcabamba was starving. I assume this was a misclick by someone.
Tarsus is solidly locked in by other borders, a flip chance of 6%. That's a lot, probably too much to keep it. Perhaps I can ferry some obsolete units from our mainland in for MP duty I'll see if I can push forward on that front.
I spotted the transports. They're heading towards Macchu Picchu. Excuse me, were heading. Two destroyers take them out.
I take out a lonely cavalry and move some units to Washington to eliminate any chance of a revolt (me, the tentative one).
New York front: I have some figthers reconning. They have SAM in all nearby cities, so I keep concentrating on New York. 1 of 3 bombers is damaged. I'm going to move a pair of bombers from the western front to Washington. I move the stack towards New York.
Persian front: bombing Susa. I'm loading two transports in Tarsus, going to land a stack near Susa next turn.
At the end of turn, I see that FnC is building research. We're not actively pursuing anything, so I set all scientists to merchants.

1804 a.d. Theebs builds an infantry. We could use more land units in the west, so it's starting on another one. Moscow builds a temple, starts on an infantry. Cuzco builds a bomber, starting on another. Macchu Picchu buils a harbor, starts on a barracks. Andahuaylas builds a harbor, starts on a temple (culture, right?). Basra builds a temple, starting on another one. I change the engineer there to an artist. Boston is reporting for duty, and starting on a temple (Obv. I meant theatre here!).
Eastern front: I want another stack to move against the american cities. Cavalry could take down weakened units I hope, so I'm going to send in a cavalry stack. Some of the infantry in former Arabia could do frontline duty as well, so I'm going to do some unit repositioning. We can take New York next turn.
Western front: some bombing. I'm going to try an amphibous assault on Susa. I take the city, but now we have only two defenders there. But they didn't come after Tarsus, so all might be well.

1806 a.d.: Copperfield builds infantry, building another. Same for BK. Rostov builds a temple, now building a theatre (no temple) to quell WW. Huamanga builds harbor, starts on a forge.
Eastern front: we capture New York without any losses. Hurray. I think we can take Seattle next turn, so I send 4 cavalry in (not more available unfortunately).

1808 a.d.: Theebs builds an infantry. WW is getting a problem there, which is cutting into our production as well. Food's running out. So I decide to give unit production a break and build a colloseum. Mecca builds a temple, building a colloseum for the same reason. That'll also help when we increase the culture spendings. Cuzco builds bomber, making another.
Eastern front: we capture Seattle. Washington is now safe from revolt, so I can move some units to New York. I send a stack north to Philly. It passes right by the Arabian capital, perhaps we should take that one as well. Next turn I'll see if we can also send a stack south. It's a bit dependent on the flip risk in New York. It passes right by the Arabian capital, perhaps we should take that one as well.

IBT: American arty attacks NY and is defeated. Should've gone for the stack. Gandhi wants to trade musicals for fur, I agree.

I'm undecided between a cavalry stack and an infy stack. Cavalry is faster, and should be able to do the trick. But since I'm ending the turn here anyway, I'll keep it open for discussion. Don't forget it!

I decide to increase the culture slider to 10%. It's costing us some money, but it greatly increases our production. 30 hammers in Theebs alone. I'll end my turnset here, finally, so change at will. Don't forget to send the stack from NY.

BTW, if anyone thinks that 5 turns is taking too much time, please, go ahead and play less. I don't know if I have the time to play 5 turns again, besides in the weekend. This turnset took me an hour and a half.
