SGOTM 06 - The Real Ms. Beyond

Yeah, but it'll be some attack stacks, rather than trying to take out a CG2 LB on hills. With Raggy's cavs it'll still be tricky to get a solid foothold, but I don't see a chance to take him on directly until we can get Cavs of our own.

I guess it's too risky to hope that we could pillage or deny Ragnar all Horses. We just can't see into the interior well enough.

@sunrise: I don't know that any of the other teams have lost--and I expect that they haven't--so when(if?) we win, it will be late, so we'll have a low Firaxis score for the game. The wooden spoon goes to the team with the lowest score.

Ironically, Murky Waters won both the silver laurels *and* the wooden spoon last event!

I thought that referred to Murky Waters finishing before them, thus they lost the laurels race, not the Civ game. I could be wrong though....

The game hasn´t got easier, many things to check and watch out for. I decide to tech for Engineering as it is 6 easy turns away and opens up trebutchets.

Nidaros is still our best bet to get a foothold on the other continent we can actually hold.

Nothing more to do then gather our forces.

1526-1529-1532-1535-1538

I gather our forces.

Landfall at Nidaros

1544 AD

Ragnar actually evacuates 3 of 8 defenders out of the city. After some bombardment and 3 suicide cats, I loose one mace. Phew, that was hairy. Or not.:D Nidaros is ours

1547 AD

Reinforcements are on way and our stack advances.

In my honest opinion, we just produce more troops and wipe out that continent.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. We might even be able to build the FP over there somewhere in a high-pop captured city. Not sure though.

Go for it Swiss.

Got it. Without looking at the save, I think I raze some of Ragnar's core cities to keep up the attack pace. I'll play this at the weekend.

Lee, since you're on deck, would it be more convenient for you to play before Swiss plays this weekend?

I agree with razing a few early Viking conquests just to get them out of the way and not have to defend them. Nidaros is a good grab.

I can't touch the game before Sunday night at this point.

 How am I almost up again? We must be playing at a lot faster pace the the previous two.

I can play a set this week end if required. I'll look at the save tonight and post some comments.

Now that we've admitted that our only chance at recognition is a wooden spoon, we're just wrapping up the game. With only 5 players in the rotation (6 now that Ruff can play on the weekend) and little discussion between turnsets, things come around quickly.

In fact, I think we can afford to be pretty loose about play order. I suspect we're within about 10 turnsets from finishing, depending on how things go and how long each person plays.

Ruff and Swiss, when one of you is about to play, post a note here in the thread so that the other doesn't start with the same save. Same idea if you want or need to coordinate playing times. Lee, you can take it after they both finish, or on Sunday night when you have time.

Note: From here on out, let's try to play as often as we can while roughly following the rotation (Compromise, TheArchduke, SwissPauli, LKendter, Kodii, [sunrise89], Ruff_hi). Since things could easily get confusing, please be sure to post that you are starting to play (and check for crossposts after you do so), and then get at least a mini-report up with the new save quickly.

We should be able to wrap this up pretty quickly.

The big point I am still not sure about is are we still going for conquest, or did we switch to domanation?

I think we're going for domination. The AIs have started expanding to lots of little islands, making conquest a pain.

We can still raze many AI cities--especially those which are in any danger of being recaptured by the AI or which will take too many resources off the front lines to defend. We can easily whip settlers out of a few cities that we keep and fill in any empty space that we leave behind.

So, at this point, we're only keeping cities that have some use for us, even if that use is just a place to heal, a place to keep a hold, or an immediately profitable city. Lots of people mean a whippable population.

I don't have time to look at the save at the moment, but may be able to tonight.

Ruff, you can take it if you can run some turns before Sunday night (when Lee could play).
