SGOTM 07 - Fifth Element

You can save a couple turns by using your workers to pre-chop their forests (or pre-build workshops, etc.) The idea is to finish the last part 1 turn after the last tech is discovered. Give you something to do anyway.

Turnset complete. Here is the save.

Notes:
Spoiler :
IT

Swap build to mace. Still 12 turns for radio.
Ask Lizzy for a gift of theology just for a goof. No dice.
Nothing else to do but hit enter.

T1
Liz and Cathy both pick up chemistry on the IT, both will trade, price of electricity is too high.
Washington is under extreme cultural pressure from Asoka. Bombay is a triple holy city and I'll bet he's got the shrine for each.

T2
Man this is boring. Hit enter.

IT: We lose our DP with Cyrus, because he decided to DoW Toku for some reason.

T3
Worker finishes hill road, move to road oil.

T4
Yawn. Hit enter.

T5
Nothing

IT KK wants us to cancel deals with Asoka. No. He's annoyed now.
Mansa wants to trade us Theology for Constitution +120g. Yeah, right.
Saladin wants OB. OK.

T6
Worker's done, head over to the uranium to hook it up.

T7
Liz is first to communism. Will trade it plus theology, HBR, and 50g for electricity. I don't trade yet to pad our lead on radio.

It Alex wants OB, I decline.
Toku wants us to help him vs. Cyrus. Not likely.

T8
I decide to start a grocer, 4 maces is enough for now if we're not going to fight.

T9
GW has rifles now. Let's hope he doesn't decide to use them against our pitifully weak army. Can't get any trades with him, HFWABTA.
Cyrus-Toku war is over already. Dunno how they pulled that off. Cyrus took Kyoto and killed off Toku. I re-sign DP with him.

T10
Mansa and Hatty agree to a peace treaty.

Sorry if you opened the post before I swapped out the huge images for thumbs.

Edit: Hmm, this is odd. I seem to have 2 turn 167s for some reason. I'm pretty sure I hadn't pushed enter when I first looked at the save a couple days ago. I'll PM AlanH for guidance. Because of this, I'm going to post the log from the submission page here in case AlanH wants to see it:

OK, one more cruising TS.
I guess the trade with Liz is more interesting.
Good to see she's got Communism, so we don't need to research it.
After Radio i propose to build the R&R, to press NY with culture and to trade one more resource.
Let's go straight to Computers, then the path to genetics: Bio/Ref/Gen so we'll solve our health problems.
With his foothold on our continent Cyrus seems now more interesting as a PA partner, but i probably prefer Liz.
We can perhaps upgrade a couple Maces to Grens.
And let's finish that grocer.

About Merum's double 167: i suppose you changed the research to communism, then you exit.
Probably the autolog registered this.

Not too exciting, but at least you didn't fall asleep at the wheel. It was very alert of you to re-sign the DP.

Also wise to wait on Communism.

Probably also wise to hold Elect for a few turns, but may be time to get Chem now and upgrade some macemen. I think our army can hold off GW if he goes that way.

The attempt to get a Theology gift: Remember trading for tech and getting gifts still counts against us for "Too Advanced". Don't make these offers.

I think we can shave a few turns off our final date if we do some more aggressive tech gifting. We should get Mansa caught up for sure and a couple other good traders. If Liz and Asoka and/or Cathy all have Physics, for example, then so should Mansa and Cyrus. Just don't give to the AI that will cause bad relations with our favorites.

I'm not too concerned by GW: we got a DP with 2 civs. Attack us will be a suicide for him. Anyway, i already proposed to upgrade a couple maces, but they can be a couple archers. We do not have money problems.
Your opinion for the PA partner: Liz or Cy?
Also, the trade proposed by Liz: can be interesting?
What about R&R?

Sabre, please give a sign, otherwise you'll swap with culdeus.

What I did with R&R and Broadway in my test game was to put them in my queue, but not build them. That keeps my PA partner from being able to waste hammers on them. I just put research in front of those wonders so they never start.
I often do the same trick with the useless 3GorgesDam and Space Elevator.

We should be looking for Rifle, Steel, Artill, and things that lead to Biology. But if we don't take Communism now, they might decide not to trade it when they start the Kremlin. So if you want to grab it I'm good with that.

This time we can't do it with the SE, but i find the 3GD useful, at least for our partner. But we can discuss this later.

After the trade with Liz, and once researched Computers we can go for Bio if we cannot trade for it.
Then Refrigeration is urgent, with a Lab we'll go in food deficit, and we need a supermarket, which gives us +2 health, +3 if we manage to have back the cows.

If we decide for Liz as our PA partner, we don't need communism, she already has it, right?

Please avoid useless techs, I'm still afraid of WFYABTA

If you have auto-save on exit on, then that explains it. When you opened the save to look at it for the first time, you also closed it. This option should then have saved the game.

Right, we probably won't ever need communism. Maybe if we try to sign Cyrus, we'd have to have it.

3GD is useless in this game. They only have 2-4 cities and will already have factories+power built before 3GD, so it's redundant.

what is "GD"?

Tonight is a perfect time for me to play BTW. Much better than tomorrow or rest of week.

Idea being to gift some lower level techs to get other AI caught up from what I gather this is Mansa and Cyrus. Might be worth it to gift to alex? What about Louis or other far away AI?

Hold elec for a few more turns before swapping with liz with the deal above? Then gift theo to anyone that doesn't have it that's at least semi-buddy with liz or cyrus? Right?

Hook up uranium and then get started on lumbermills.

Builds? Not sure where we are on buildings left grocer is up, but swap to research after complete?

Are we ready to recall all ships to the bay?

With Electricity, we need windmills on those hills instead of the mine. In fact, I would put a windmill on the Marble and stone if we're not trading them or using them.

Don't get Theo even if it's free or included in a trade.

I think Alex and Louis trades will anger some of our friends. Maybe avoid them.

The general strategy should be to hand on to the family jewels (refrig, genetics) hold radio and computer for a little while, but play tech broker for everything else. As soon as we get steel, rifle, artill, Biology, give them away immediately.

culdeus, you can swap with Sabre, so you're up and he has time to catch up with the thread. Anyway a sign from him will be appreciated.

I hope there're no big problems, Merum what do you did?
Anyway we're not in a phase where a turn replayed can change something.

Culdeus, you can play after Merum's problem will be solved, stay tuned!

Yes WT you're right on the 3GD: i noticed in the test that Liz built coal plants despite i has the 3GD, so better use the production for research.

Roster
culdeus - UP for ten turns
Sabre - on deck
dutchfire - try to not be eliminated by Russia
Sweetacshon - if he can play
Balthalion
greatbeyond
WastinTime
Blubmuz - eliminated by Spain, but in another game
Merum - resting

ok so take gold chem rep parts from liz for electricity then? Leaving out theo and hr for wafybta.

Other tech trades will be us gifting for the most part.
OK the first, remember to never plain gift: always take a WM or some cash.

And don't forget to watch when the PA is available.
WT windmills is a good idea: verify if we have some active trade for stone and/or marble, then apply, starting from stone.

Anyway, wait for Merum OK before start, or directly PM AlanH, in case.

Remember that AlanH is in England.

I've seen that Sabre's last post in this thread is from June 05.
Let us know something, Sabre!

I'm sorry, just try to see if he PM something before to give up.
