SGOTM 07 - Fifth Element

It never occured to me, possibly 'cause i usually prioritize plastics to build the 3GD, and as you know the power does not sum. I will add something after a check on the options for the SS parts and some more doubts i have.

Code:

I'm thinking XTeam is done at 1440. Post frequency is down to next to nothing and that 1440 save has been there longer than a week. CRC has been playing super slow this whole time. They just might not finish?

Hi guys,

I'm back from Sauerland, how're we doing?

It's Xteam. They probably finished with a win. Keep playing and take what we get.

Edit: PS, Sauerkraut is Chinese ftw.

You know what they probably have to do to get land outside the main conty is to just gift a whole flotilla of navy stocked with troops. I would think getting the AI to land on another AI would be super frustrating. You can't just get them to tag along like on their own landmass. That probably explains the huge power drop and the other teams just haven't made it quite that far to do anything quite like that yet.

To win by domination thay would have signed a PA around 1000 AD: i can't see how this can happen.
They got a couple of good players, but not an exceptional team as CRC *was*.
Curiosity is killing me.

Anyway, this is the strategy we decided at the beginning, let's go with this one.

Merum's idea about 3GD sounds good: our partner will benefit from power, too.

FTW ??? (i got an idea, it's perhaps something about global copulation?)

I agree we need Fusion (Engine) before Plastics (nothing). We don't want a time where there is nothing to build. Fiber - Plastics - Fusion would take about 25 turns. I think (hope) we'd run out of thrusters/casings before then. Need to start that engine, so the capitol can do (robotics) docking bay.

How about a plan that takes us to the end of Fiber and play that out?

FTW = For the Win (?)

And Sauerland is in Germany :)

I read a thread where people were complaining that meltdowns happen "all the time", but you know how people are... I was ready to say no to the nuc plant, but then someone posted some numbers.

The code results in the generation of a random number each turn between 0 and 2000, if it generates 0 then the plant melts down.

In each of your cities with a nuclear power plant there is a 0.0005% chance of a meltdown each turn

The chance of surviving 10 turns is thus (0.9995)^10 = 0.995 (approx)

Since it's turn based, marathon speed has a larger problem (one of the first disadvantages I've ever seen for marathon.) The odds we can survive 40 turns with 1 plant seem pretty high.

What happens in case of a meltdown?

Yeah, I can see how this might work up to that point. One could also gift a large expeditionary force already on the other land mass [EDIT: I think? Or maybe not? Can one gift to an AI without being in their territory?], but either way if the exchange is showing as a power drop then they can't have signed a PA yet or the power wouldn't have dropped (would it?). And if there hasn't been a PA then they can't possibly have won yet. Also, one would have to be very careful to make sure getting the PA was certain to happen on time, because waiting too long could easily lead to an AI domination victory without you. Honestly, the more I think about this the more difficult it appears. It would be like trying to get Mortimer Snerd to land an airplane. Has anybody on our team actually come close to making this work with one of our test game setups?

We should finish quickly just so we can explore the other team threads and see what is going on. :D

PS: Could someone who has actually had the pleasure of experiencing a nuclear meltdown please explain to me what the effects are (uh, in the game, I mean)?

EDIT #2: I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier just to kill everyone one the other continent, wait and see which AI from our continent actually settled the open land there first, and then kill everyone else remaining on our own continent. Timing the PA correctly would still be a challenge though.

EDIT #3: I also wonder if one could make that work in reverse -- that is, kill everyone on our continent and wait to see who will settle there fastest from the other continent?

The effects are similar to having about half an ICBM dropped on you. You get fallout and a population loss and some unhappiness. Only one I've ever had meltdown on me was one I captured. I didn't even know it was there. :nuke:

What is the worst that could happen if we do get a meltdown then? We lose some population and have to clean up a few tiles? Given the small chance of it happening and the relatively inconsequential effect on our win date of a worst-case scenario it may be worth taking the risk.

Check out these power graphs... Coincidence? Somebody definitely thinks they can get something to work in the military realm... :hmm:

I'm writing this with the game open:
Liz already has Nuke plants in London and York, not even a forge in Nottingham. Thus the 3GD is useless.
I guess IW should be a end game option, or we'll loose pop in few turns.
I propose:
1) build research until Liz completes the Apollo or
2) build culture for a couple turns to try to get the cows (36% american), then research.
- mine the uranium, then factory/Nuke plant
Are you sure that researching the same tech is better than research others? 7 turns for FO, with a couple already spent seem a lot in normal speed.

I think building research is best. :hmm: do we already have the tech to clean up pollution? If not, a meltdown could really hurt us hard. Yes, researching together is better than researching different things.

Fusion+GE+3 Gorges FTW. Does Liz get hydro if we build the dam?

As far as I know, yes.

Regarding the cows, I fear Asoka is close to controlling them, and will probably get them instead of us.

Question to the PA experts, why can't we work "our" sheep?

Will we keep pre-workchopping/pre-mining tiles?

Are we planning on completing the factory soon (leading to unhealthiness), or will we keep it in the queue. If we leave it there, won't hammer rot start? Likewise, are we planning on completing the Iron Works?

Techs: Fiber Optics -> Fusion seems to be the plan, and then plastics, and using the GE on the three gorges dams. I suppose robotics will follow, as that gives us the most expensive SS part.

Should we start projects like the internet and the manhattan project, to avoid Liz starting them?

We could bribe Cathy to declare on Saladin. Do we need such a diversion, or are we save enough from Cathy and Sally already?
