SGOTM 08 - Trash Team

I assumed he was talking about Ballista Elephants and Catapults... Both needing construction and available earlier than Macemen.

Yes, War (Ballista) Elephants and catapults.
They can be a formidable force and if bee-lined are available early enough to be viable for a long time - even in the age of Longbows.

Also, with stables you can have 2 promo Elephants right out of the gate.

As I was saying though, the techs required are a fair way off our desired tech path for the game we've been planning.

Change tech to Mysticism, build to warrior, both workers to road.

Bah! connecting copper obsoletes the warrior. Build is changed to spear which sets us back 2 turns, but does give a better fog-buster!

THE SAVE

Nice round of exploration.

We are not alone...

There's a potential site west of the lake that catches rice, cows and ivory. I see the hand of Gyathaar in stone island.

On the other hand Oracle is looking very borderline. We'll get it if we're lucky (but having missed Glib by a couple of turns in last sgotm and then popping three GAs in a row I'm not confident about our luck).

Oracle should only take 12-14 turns. We can grow to size 5, focus on production to make sure we get the oracle, working cows, gold, copper, grass hill, plains hill (=17 hammers) That should reduce it to 8-9 turns. If we also throw in an extra chop we could get it in 6 turns or so.

I would not chop for 20h while our woods will get us 60h after maths for marble wonders ;) (GL ?) ? what's your opinion ?

I suggest prebuild axeman (4h), whip 2 pop and get the 29 overflow into oracle for very last hammers.

note : stonehenge bifal 2120 is quite late, probably meaning there are no wonder spammer. the GW is not gone yet, so i am quite confident for the oracle (AI usally go SH > GW > Oracle, but there can be exceptions :( )

What about whipping 2 pop for the oracle? Or does that give less hammers?

whipping wonders give 20h / pop, so we would get 40h (but no axeman ;) )

it's up to you all, I dont want to loose the oracle on a stupid gamble (in an offline game I would make this gamble), we already chose to delay marble connection (when I think of al those H lost  - ;)), now we're 10/12 turn from oracle (dont know how many turns it will take before growing size 5).

another question : we wont use marble for oracle, so shouldnt we settle 1S of marble (to get a few H in the marble city) ?

I'd go with the axeman whip. I've never seen the AI build the Oracle before 1000 BC on monarch.

We should still settle the island city on the marble. Otherwise it'll miss the northern fish and we can workshop the plains tile anyway.

o, when I said 'settle 1S of marble' i was thinking of a filling city on the main island 2N1W of the fish (E of the capital).

the workshop wont be as efficient as marble before chemistry isnt it ?

Ese-Ash, did you take notice of the fact that you are up?

We are awaiting a "got it" and PPP... :)

yes yes ! I propose to play until oracle is built ?

so it would be very simple :

proposal 1 :
build oracle ASAP (grow 5 in 3 turns, then maximize prod).

proposal 2 :
build oracle and whip axeman to finish it.

proposal 3 :
build oracle while growing size 6 (finish oracle 1 turn before growing size 6) so that we can immeditly whip a settler after oracle.

In all cases, a BIG issue is that our current 2nd city will become Confu holy city, therefore our priest farm, and this city is a bit low in food :(

edit : other point : build pasture on pigs ASAP, and use 2nd city as a worker farm (grow size two, build worker, whip, etc..)

could do that, but I think would take longer for settler/axe

got an axe, oracle but would take longer to regrow and whip settler

build oracle while growing size 6 (finish oracle 1 turn before growing size 6) so that we can immeditly whip a settler after oracle.

I think this is the best bet. after settler whip go into production of axe, worker, settler

good point, is the next city going to marble/2xfish?

Re priest farm. If we got a GS from city2 (while growing a Prophet in city1) then bulbed philosophy early (obviously need maths and alphabet out of the way first) then we'd likely found Taoism in a different city (?marble ?ele) which would become an alternative shrine city / priest farm.

Say good bye to building lots of units in city 2 if you want to run a couple of scientists. Good plan though, i'm all for it if we can keep our power and expansion up.

Is it decided that we take CoL from Oracle? Has my vote.

hello,

I will play tonight, so the PPP is clear and ok ?

- build oracle while growing size 6 (finish oracle 1 turn before growth)
- use city 2 to whip 1 worker (continu baracks so we can whip units later here)
- build pasture on pigs, then ivory, then the grassland hills near city 2
- use oracle for CoL

Hi guys,

Sorry for the "lost-in-space-and-time" impression... I started my year of studying abroad and have had little time for Civ. The little time coupled with some civ-burnout have been the cause of my absence. I did read the discussion from time to time and you seem to be going good, but with little testing I did, I didn't feel in the position to give any comment/advice. Also as I have very very little experience with BtS...
I propose to get me off the "active" players list, I will let you guys have the fun, I'd screw up anyway as I'm not very 'involved' so far. : ) If I find the time and energy I'll try to join the discussion etc.!
Sorry to let you down. Anyway: good luck (so NOT like last game...) and have fun! ; )

I started but have a question : which tech to research after writing ? IW ?

shaka settled close by :

5 turns to oracle - growing 4 turns :

If we're heading for the jungle next (and if we don't Shaka will nab it instead) then IW is next.

Iw is good to improve Cow city and to see where Iron is, might give some extra production.
