SGOTM 09 - Fifth Element

Settler to white dot (Do we have a name there ? )
As I said, i like greek names. But i'll take anything you want, provided is short.
I am *hopeless* at thinking of names on the fly. So, I'll go with the default and let someone else rename it.

Playing now.

Ahh. Having a world of problem getting the autolog to log. it *looks* like it's logging, but I can't find the output anywhere...
[EDIT]
figured it out, I think. ...

under \\my documents\my games\BtS\Autolog\

you must use the .txt extension on the options\HoF1 and choose "forum tags"

after your TS just copy from the TXT in your post

if you haven't play yet, you can experiment with a new game with HoF settings.

I find the autolog useful (but using html tags and extension) to compare games for the HoF.

OK. Done.

Here's the autolog (looks like I was missing \\ in the path separators)

So, worker 1 is building a query, worker2 a FP. Launchpad has just started a Library leaving the Great Wall in the queue, and about to pop to size5.
WhiteDot/Athens is building a warrior.

The scout is in the middle of the northern wood having just checked Hammy's northern border to the sea. He was kicked out of the west by Hammy's border pop.

Hammy seems to be stuck in the north-west of the island. We may be able to box him in, or let him settle our cities  . Not sure the best plan there

Well done, even the TS report :goodjob:

Now, let's plan next one.

Berserks should be up, but if he doesn't give a got it, the ball is at Mesix.

If we delay the growth of LaunchPad for 1 turn (so it grows on T33) then the library will be in by T34, not t35. (or is that t35, not t36 ?) :crazyeye:

By my figuring, we're 23 turns away from being ready to pop Civil Service. (I *think* I've taken into account the library and two FPs in LaunchPad) Turn 51 I think.

So, we need to start the oracle on turn 42 I think (working the marble and unimproved 2:hammers: hill. so, there is not time to finish an airship.

Dammit, you didn't catch one ;)
No need to delay the growth: once Launch will grow, the library will gain 1 turn, thus it will actually built in 4 (t. 34).
No need to use the "0 research" trick: nothing changes and we'll avoid to forget to set it back to 100.
I experimented both ways, and in both Math was done on turn 46 and so the Oracle.
But we'll save some money researching @90%, so we can research Alpha in 4 t. @100% after CS.
We'll need to accurately MM Launch to pop the GS 1 turn before the GW completes.
I've found that starving it close to the limit works fine.
I'll post a detailed plan on #3 in few hours.

Okay, I've never used the autolog before. I got it running but I don't know how to add the user comments after each turn. What is the secret formula?

[Alt+E] not so secret... ;)
But, strange by a HoF player. i use a lot the autolog to compare similar games.

No idea what you mean there

Doh, of course..

I wonder where my maths went wrong then. :dunno:

We'll need to accurately MM Launch to pop the GS 1 turn before the GW completes.

Why is that ? To make sure there's no GSpy pollution ?

You have to count the beakers produced by Athens, the ones for the FP in Launch, the ones by scientits + Library and the Academy

Why is that ? To make sure there's no GSpy pollution ?
Yes, and to have the academy ASAP

Ok. I'll take a look and post a PPP on Friday and play this weekend. If Mesix wants, he can swap with me and I'll take it this weekend instead.

Thanks, it might not be a secret but I never found a reason to use it before (and neither has Mesix cause I asked him first across the room). As a HOF player, I prefer to play than to read logs. Maybe that's why I'm a Monarch player and not a Deity player.

The first time I used the Autolog was for SGOTM 10.

I don't read logs to compare my HOF games. I juat play a lot of games (at work) and compare the end result of different strategies. This hasn't helped me to finish with top makrs in any of the Gauntlets, but I can manage to tick off a few EQM requirements each update.

Different styles of play.
Surely i can't describe myself as a Deity player. Monarch/Emperor at best.
Not clear how you guys can play at work

Well, Mesix do you like to swap with Berserks?

We like to say we get paid for what we know not what we do. We work really hard when things break. Luckily things don't break real often.

Ahh, Yes. i forgot to count the GSci :science:

I'm very surprised !.

I can normally win an Monarch, and occasionally at Emperor if I don't get boxed in too early, and I feel well out of my depth with this level of planning/play going on here !!

You're suprised? I'm a Noble level player :p

Honest, i think that this level of MM and so on is a deity level.
Fact is, after i got 3 cities i tend to lost focus.
Not mentioning when i'm at war, mainly if unwanted.

WT is surely a deity player, probably one of the best.
But i've learnt and i'm learning a lot from those SGs.

Well, time to discuss some strategy.
I got some question for the team. Debate them now will save time later, and will help us to focus in the tests.

Detours to the straight path to Lib/Rifling:
MC
Calendar (i'll explain later)
Compass

Use of the GPersons:
GSpies (hopefully none) will be saved for some late GAge
GS settle, until turn 140-150: after then, they will pop late game techs
GM settle
GP save for GAge for Shrines (but hopefully we'll find some built)
GA (can't see how) Settle
GE 2 would be enough: 1 for the Mining Inc, 1 for the SoL. If we pop 3, 3rd one can be settled or build one half of the 3GD.
GG: 1 super medic, possibly with 2 moves, the other(s) settled in Launch

About GAges:
in my test i got 3 of them, all late, 9 turns thanks to MoM
First one is by Taj, usually after i have conquered 1 AI.
2nd one after the 2nd AI was out and their cities are out of revolt
3rd one while researching fiber optics (i have to better define the right turn)

Now, back to techs:
MC: fairly obvius, it greatly improves the production, mainly at quick speed. e.g. i manage to save 0 turns (yes zero) in Lauch for Pyramids, but this way the forge was for free. Pyramids was built in turn 70.
Calendar: less obvius, my theory: no calendar resources in sight, so useless. I must say that usually i could trade for it, and build the MoM. But once no. Can we risk to shorten our GAges by 3 turns? FYI, i saved exactly 2 turns on the final rush thanks to my late GAge.
Compass: for Launch an Harbor is a great thing after the airport. This tech can also be well traded. But it's less strategic than the others.

To summarize:
I'm strongly in favor to research MC after Alpha - Currency.
For the remaining 2 i'm undecided, we can see how things will go.
