Wow, what an unfortunate roll on the Great People. You know what they say about the best laid plans . . . . sturick's up next. Hopefully he won't pull an artist!
Otherwise, a solid turn I'd say. We're almost at the nuclear event horizon! Though I imagine that Rocketry will take a bit longer to finish, with having to push the slider down. We CAN renegotiate the gold deal with Gandhi to get a bit more cash. Maybe we can sell sheep or something to Mao if we can get by with -1 health? Though I'd rather not, on second thought.
If we're lucky, Smolensk will steal those farm tiles back from St. Pete. It's putting out quite a bit of culture due to Sid's!
Though, holy cow! Those maintenance costs are a lot higher than I was expecting! Maybe I just haven't played with Corps. in a while, but I don't recall the costs being so high. Oh well. I was looking at this to try and figure something out: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/corporations.php
I think that it basically says, among other factors like map size and difficulty level, the more resources you pull in, the higher both the benefits AND costs are. I wonder, should we seriously consider a change to Free Markets? That -25% to Corporate maintenance might really come in handy (according to that link, that applies before courthouses, although it was on an older patch). Plus, we'd get an extra trade route and foreign trade with two of our neighbors which might offset the loss of a specialists in each city. Maybe? If we could somehow get De Gaulle to switch out of Merc himself . . . .
I'd suggest spreading the corp to the AI, but their all in Merc or State Property, so I don't think that that's going to happen any time soon. If any of them go Free Market or something, we should definitely spread the corp there. They probably won't have nearly the number of resources that we do, so let them deal with maintenance, and our headquarters will get more gold. Still, unlikely to happen unless we force them to change somehow.
Oh, and Yeka could do with Sid's, of course. Once the Factory is done, it can run 2 more Engineers. After that, we should carefully consider which cities would benefit from Sid's so that we don't cripple ourselves with the maintenance.
It looks like we can get Rocketry in at 40% without too much trouble. Maybe wait a few turns, I suppose.
Anyway, crippling deficit aside, I like the tech situation. We'll probably be able to take half the world before the AI come close to getting nukes themselves!
Overall strategy: I think we should nuke in this order: Gandhi - Roosevelt - Mao - etc. or somesuch.
Gandhi is obvious, but I was thinking that we should check the Glance screen and hit the AI who are least popular to try and avoid the massive "You nuked our friend!" penalties.
Going after Gandhi: Yeah, ships wouldn't be a bad idea, though we should also prepare for a ground slog as well. Ideally, if we nuke a coastal city and take out all or most of the defenders, we can probably take the city by sea. Marines would be ideal, but I think that Infantry can handle it for now. Industrialism isn't the highest priority tech on our list at the moment, I think.
We'll want plenty of subs, though. 6-8, perhaps? Maybe more? Note that a sub has to load a Tactical Nuke like a unit going on a transport, meaning that it has to be in harbor or by the shore.
This should go down easy. Gandhi doesn't even have Rifling yet, but even if he techs it, Infantry get a +25% against Gunpowder units, so we should still win the day. The biggest annoyance will be his airships, I think.
Oh, and we should take screen shots of each nuke strike. I don't know if that's our "proof" or if it's recording in the game that a city took a direct hit. Anyway! Hopefully you're available for a got it, sturick! I plan to play this weekend one way or another (mainly because I wouldn't be able to get a set in otherwise).
